Does anybody have information on production art jobs?
By production art I mean the people who create the architectural and texture elements in games, movies, or print media. I am curious to know of anything from low resolution texture mapping to high resolution graphics for large scale prints. I suppose this means pretty much anything outside of scenery or character art. It would be a dream to be able to create the textures, or even the objects, in the realism art of games like Myst. Is there even a market for these kinds of jobs?
I am curious to know what kinds of things should be in a porfolio and what types of education is required of such artists. Additional information about the jobs would be nice. What are the working conditions for these jobs like? Does everything get done in the office, or do these artists work at home, or work outside the office? Do the companies provide all the necessary tools and equiptment? What are the typical job expectations for these jobs? Do you have to work more than 60 hours a week average? How would work performance, product quality, and production efficiency be measured and at what level expected?
I would love to be a production artist, but I am not sure what would be required of somebody to start at a firm on the entry level. If anybody has any experience, knowledge, or a good place of reference I would be very grateful.
I do not feel very productive locked away in a desert far from home, so I might as well atleast read up on what is needed for entering the industry. Hopefully I will be home in only 2 more months to better persue what is necessary to enter the industry. _________________ http://prettydiff.com/ |
