It seems Google has subsumed a neat little picture-organization program called Picasa and is now distributing it for free.
I gave it a try since I have around 8000 digital photos sitting in a bunch of folders named "IMG0084", et al. In about 30 minutes, I was able to cull out two distinct groups of pictures, self-portraits and sky shots, and put them into their own categories. I don't want to imagine how long it would have taken in Explorer to accomplish the same task. Basically, Picasa compiles all of the digital photos on your computer and sorts them by date. You then select the photos you want to be in the "Picture Tray", and from there you carry out the desired tasks.
Picasa, however, desperately needs an "Export to [program of your choice]". Also, the pictures are only organized inside the program, rather than on your hard drive. If you choose to locate an album on your hard drive, it opens every folder that the pictures inside the album are located.
The program's worth a try, however, if you don't feel like shilling out the 40 bucks for ACDSee. _________________ QED, sort of. |

yea, its a very nice little program, ive tried a few different programs to organise my photos like CompuPic, Portfolio etc. But picasa seem to do it most simply and the way i want, the search feature works well to provided youve named your folder path and filenames well.
A "export to app" key combo would be good, in the meantime if you press ALT+ENTER it will highlight the selected file in explorer for you. |

Extremely buggy. Uninstalled. Otherwise, yes, very neat program. _________________ "I'm not a shrimp, I'm a KING PRAWN !" -- Pepe.

the red eye fixer seemed pretty good for quick fix of snapshots.
I got a little motion sickness scrolling through all my photos, though |

It is a bit slow previewing images (not like ACDSEE), and I hate when I delete an image from my disc, having to click all the time "Yes" to assure I want to delete it. ACDSEE allows to erase without asking.
At first it is a bit confusing the Album organization, but when you get the touch of it, it is really nice.
One thing I cannot understand the utility of, is the "Timeline" feature...is it a kind of slideshow? It seems bizarre to me.
But all in all, I am using it a lot right now. _________________ _ _ _____ _ _

I did some rooting around on the forums, and I found out that ctrl + O will open the picture in your default picture editor. Still not a drop-down list of Image editors, though...
It also seems like the developers are open to suggestions, complaints, whatever on their forums. Nice to see that nowadays. _________________ QED, sort of. |
