Hello!
Something I've been wondering for a while is what kind of level you need to have on your artwork in order to get accepted to an art school (i.e. how good you have to be). I understand that it can vary a bit depending on the school, but to get some kind of general idea would be really nice. So, all you pro's out there, why not dump a picture or two, showing what you had in your portfolio? It would be very interesting for us amateurs to see I think. |

well for me i am in the process of building a port. for my application to Sva...i am doing 15 pieces by dec. and then 10 more pieces there after. When I spoke to some reps. at are schools they said each person is different meaning, the consider what you took in high school as far as art goes. Some schools even offer a portfolio class to help those who are struggle a bit. It is basically like this...
"you are one of four people that want to get into 'x' school...there is only one space left...why should 'x' school choose you instead of the other 3? ..you have to make them see your unique and be willing to invest in you...cause if they are correct and you blow up big...basically your an walking ad for them for life...since every interview will have pretty much what chool did you go to....so i say that what 'y' had and what 'g' had in their port. isn't useless but when you get down to the nitty gritty it's meaningless...here is a good link though...

I remember a post by someone applying to an art school, and they had requested him to submit a character design, an environment interior, an environment exterior, a head portrait, a full body portrait, and a mechanical rendering showing perspective lines.
I think the wider variety of works you can present, the better. Not a bunch of any one type of art (landscapes, still lifes, cartoons, etc.). And of course, you only want to present your very best works.
I would suggest a minimum of 6 pieces, and a maximum of 12-15, if you have that many. A couple of ADs I know stop at 10 pages, regardless, with the attitude that the best stuff is at the front. _________________ Life is short. Expect nothing, enjoy everything.
