Sorry for not being more active these days. Work is keeping me busy.
First image is a Scott Burdick painting. Please see this as a master study more than anything else. All credit goes to him for it.
Second one is a painting of Zhang Ziyi. Thanks for looking.

Hey henrik! These are great. Checked out ur site dude, you're very talented. Like you i'm an aspiring 2d artist and animator myself, I wish that someday i'll be as successful as you. Wish you the best in ILM! I'm a huge star wars fan, can't wait till next year.
Hey do u mind givin me tips on how you give texture to your paintings? I normally use just the hard brush, and I like the grainy feel that u have in some of your paintings.
Oh yeah, and about ur posts, dunno if its just me, but i think that the left pic looks more asian than the right one. |

hmm, looks as if the first one was heavily referenced. Wait, no, it was ripped completely. Next time give credit where credit is due. Some personal project...

Sorry, I didn't know who the original painter was, I should have credited yes.
thanks for the observation, I messed up the file names. Should be correct now.
As for texture, I use custom brushes pretty much all the time unless I'm painting very small details, then I tend to use hard round brushes.
What you can try to do is paint a rough brush yourself, add it to your brush set and edit the preferences for it. Play around with the options for scattering, spacing and tons more.
I've been fortunate to work with really great people in my life, so it's easy to be "successful" with peers like that around you.

Nice work henrik.
I don't know what all the fuss is about since you did say that it's a study of a master painting. Which is perfectly fine thing to do if you want to try the artist's hand on his painting. |

thanks for your comments and critique, much appreciated. It's never better than that it can't be improved.
Kory, I should go down there and beat you all up, if "Eric the insane lunatic with with the knee thingie" hasn't already. I hope you're all doing ok and that you can buy me a free lunch in the lunch room when i see you.
Watmough, I changed the mouth, but didn't dare touching that nose. Good advice.
thanks again all, any questions and I am happy to answer. _________________ http://www.somniostudios.com |

Kid blues> just random brushes. When you paint clothes you have to paint details on top of folding cloth which can be tricky. Keep your value structure intact and work from there.
environment design:
It's taken months to create it. Well, I started working on it earlier this year, but I got to finish it recently. Effective time is not too bad, late nights and weekends is enough.

Love the rendering and feel of it.
The composition of the image makes it seem oddly out of perspective, but I can't tell if it's really out of perspective or if the lack of visual clues just gives that impression. Makes it strangely compelling anyway. _________________ Art Links Archive -- Artists and Tutorials |

Henrik I have a question if you don't mind.
Right now I'm having a lot of trouble with color, realistic colors I mean.
Color has never been an intuitive process with me. When I look at a reference photo to do my digital paintings, I have to struggle a lot with HSB sliders before I can get a color that looks simular the way it does on the reference photo. So color is like a trial and error process for me. I am sure this isn't the way I'm supposed to work.
I think I know the basic color theory, about cooling your colors in the shadows, desaturating colors in the distance etc but when I pick colors that way about 70% time it looks wrong.
Im thinking I may not be SEEING colors the way they actually are. How can I do this? Or am I just lacking practice?
Examples of my work can be seen here
