compared to your other (Filter-squeezing) Stuff, this looks way better imho.
It looks like a promising start. However, I didn't know, that breaking the sound-barrier would produce a cloud One thing you might really want to do, or - better said - you SHOULD really do is give a shit about "effects" for now and concentrate on as-is stuff.
i.e. take this Pic, leave the strange cloud and draw the plane just the way it looks. Try to do it similar as the nose, then go over the whole pic again, refine shading, work out details, have a look at it and repeat the last step. That's the way things go. And always keep the last pass as seperate file - so you can go back if you don't like the result.
Do this over and over again and if you spend enough time on it you improve, get better & faster etc. Always try to find your limits and then work to raise them.

They do produce a cloud when breaking the sound barrier. Though probably an idea to just draw the plane first, then the cloud over the top.
Thats an FA/18 though.
I thought it was pretty cool - lighting could be adjusted a bit, to give that glare of the sun look. |

this is the reference pic i used, and the cloud makes it impossible to c the back half of the plane:
and i didnt use any effects on that painting _________________ 赤竜 |

hehe, didn't know that thing with the cloud.
However, as I said, I'd really recommend you to do more as-is paintings and less effects (from what you wrote in the other Threads, I assume, that you want to refine your skills/learn how to make real good stuff in Photoshop and the only way to do that is work, work work).
If your Ref-Pic sucks, you have 2 possibilities:
a) start all over again and choose a ref-pic in which you see everything and then work it out in "passes", block out the rough detail, refine, refine, refine, refine - at some stage you think, that you're done - go over the whole thing again twice and then you might really be done
b) take another pic of the same plane (F14 Tomcat I guess - Google for it or i.e. look here or here) and try to interprete the missing detail. (probably the harder way, because you might end up correcting lighting/perspective forever) _________________ I am what I am, because if I wouldn't be what I am,

dude, that painting is "as-is" and i didnt use any effects: i just drew it, scanned it, and painted it with 40% opacity
and whats the point of drawing the hidden part of the plane when ur never gonna c it anyway cause of the vapor cloud _________________ 赤竜 |

Keep working on it. You've got the broad shapes in there, which is a good start, but it's not really at the level yet where it's worth showing (good candidate for the WIP forum though).
Use the zoom tool in your painting software to enlarge an area, scale down your brush size, and continue at the next level of detail. Then when that's looking good, zoom in again. At some point we should be able to see the pilot in the cockpit, even if you have to make him up.
Don't let yourself get bored with an image so early in the process. You need to get comfortable with the fact that a good image - an image that is worth showing - will probably take a good week of work. _________________ Art Links Archive -- Artists and Tutorials |

well, i cant draw the pilot unless i can c him in the reference picture...which i cant c his body in that pic
and im kinda new to painting with photoshop....i dunno how to blend shadows and stuff
broad shape? the only details that are missing r the numbers on the nose, the pylon on the wing, and the pitot tube on the nose
every other detail is there _________________ 赤竜 |

You can still detail it but sharpening edges etc.... - blend shadows by using a softer brush with a lower opacity. that way they'll blend better. thats how i do it at least, i'm sure there are other ways, infact i remember seeign a thread about that not long ago. cbf finding it. sorry |
