What kind of positions in industry exist for artists whose primary focus is still life or texture art? For instance, do game production or promotional firms hire still life artists, or is it necessary to rely on character art to carry your portfolio?
I am merely curious if art from a still life approach is valid as a discipline or if I would be wasting my time by not concentrating my efforts on character studies or environmental scenes. _________________ http://prettydiff.com/ |

On the grand scheme of things, there's a bigger market for still lifes than there is for video game art of any sort. However, it sounds like you want to do still lifes AND work in the video game market. I'm not sure what to tell you there, since I don't do that much video game work. All I can say is that with ONE exception, the only video game positions I've been offered have been concept-art related, and, had I been able to accept them, would've involved character/environment designs more than anything else. _________________ Dignity isn't important. Textile design, greeting cards, jig saw puzzle (no kidding - its a market), fine art, sales and commercial art, billboard art, book covers, architectural rendering, even medical art is essentially still life work ...
As Socar wrote, there is probably a bigger market for non-game oriented artwork than there is for game art... _________________ HonePie.com
