I've gotten requests from people in the past to buy prints of my work, but I never took any action. I just don't think of my stuff as being anything special, so making prints of them just seemed silly to me. But recently, a company contacted me and has a system where they print your work and you set your price, then part of the proceeds will go to charity. Now, that's more my cup of tea--to know that my artwork can actually help alleviate the troubles of our society in an although insignificant, but tangible way. I'm not sure what to price my prints though. I'm thinking the size will be about 30 x 24 inches--and the cost to print that will be close to $10 USD. |

Deviant Prints of DeviantArt recently ran into a problem with prints priced too low. People were actually buying bulk quantities of prints and reselling them in their own online store with a higher marked up price and nothing in royalties for the artist. This may or may not concern you considering the noble efforts to which you are directing the profit, but it is something important to be aware of.
I suggest you consider pricing the prints a bit higher just so that a bit more profit can be made above the cost overhead for your charity, but this is entirely your choice.
For pricing examples I suggest taking a trip to Deviant Prints and seeing what other people have priced their prints at. The only problem with this is they don't display sells statistics, so there is no way to rate print costs versus number of sells for more accurate market pricing. Print sells there are also extremely bi-polar, so there might be a buying trend that effects your sells down the road. By bi-polar I mean that some people sell incredible numbers of prints while everybody else sells next to nothing (including myself). _________________ http://prettydiff.com/ |

"30 x 24 inches" ... isn't that huge?
Usually it should be possible to choose between different sizes.
I think offering that one size only would make your target group smaller.
If you go for it, then take it seriously. Money would be involved.
How many people visit your website each month?
I guess you'd have to expect some emails if there is something that bothers people.
For example if the company doesn't like Paypal (... some people don't have credit cards)
What I'm trying to say? It might turn into something that takes some effort to maintain.
I agree with cheney btw.
A higher price would be better. Especially for 30 x 24 prints ...
I guess $10 would be a reasonable price for a 10x15 inch print.
And yeah ... check out deviantprints.com to see how much the prices differ between different sizes. _________________ http://www.conceptworld.org |

That low cost prints situation deviantart prints had, is that still around, because I've been looking for an inexpensive way for me to produce prints in bulk to sell at conventions and that might be the ticket. _________________ [:: Digital Marmalade! ::]

Here is the article explaining the problem in detail:
http://news.deviantart.com/article/15045/
Please note the print sizes. Sizes they offer are photo related rather than standard art sizes since they print everything on photo paper. The base price is the price they charge as a service, so if you are good at marketing or go to conventions it might be best (if you wish to use them) to order bulk quantity prints. They charge the artist the base price for their own prints automatically, so just set all the prices for your prints insanely high. If you are charging $99 per print then you can order a massive load of your own work at $13.95 and not have to worry about third parties ripping you off. |
