Anybody use the lock transparency feature? I only just now came across it.
You could lay down a perfect round dot (as an unmoved brush stroke) on its own transparent layer, Lock transparency, then paint over it to your hearts content and render it into a ball without worrying about messing up that first round edge. |

Neat, isn't it?
Though, once you've used it, trying to work non-digitally becomes that much more frustrating. "Undo" and "lock transparency" have ruined my patience for real paint. _________________ brian.prince|light.comp.paint |

I used to use the layer grouping function for the same result. You draw your shape in one layer (like i.e. a silhouette of a character), make another layer on top of that one and group them. Now you can paint in the upper layer without worrying about ruining the shape.
But I stopped using that technique because the edges always look so sharp and don't integrate into the rest of the picture. I learned its better to do worry about the shape and learn to actually paint them rather than using such tricks. |

Yeah, I use it occasionally.. it's really useful combined with the lasso-tool. Kinda like a dual mask, one static - one dynamic. (Even though it's often just useful to a certain degree.) |
