I am working on this and need some help with composition
of both the soul to the right, and composition as a whole.. any suggestions?

The LORD bless thee, and keep thee:
The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:
The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.
Numbers 6:24 - 26

kewl idea to work with. As per the figure itself, it would be better, I think, if when you were finished to turn down that layer's opacity so that it looked like the figure was transparent. WE all kind of see the soul and spirit as a transparent thing, so that would play with it. As per lighting, I would suggest that the figure itself not have to many details, and be done in a painterly kind of study feel to it, so that there were no real crisp lines, but the figure could be seen there.
It's always tricky when the fiugre itself is glowing how to make it appear that the figure is glowing from within. Alex Ross had a great solution to this when he was doing Marvels and drawing the Human Torch. What he did was he used the negatives as reference. The light areas were dark, and the dark areas were light. This backward approach actually worked really well and produced a great look for that character. You may or may not want to look into that.
Anyway, I hope this is helpful. _________________ "It's not the tools you use but how you use them that counts." |

Well I'm not a christian but (on a optimisitic assessment of human nature) there will be a lot of souls on their way to heaven. You will have to manage this carefully wrt distance - you show about a dozen, all at quite a close distance. Presumably there should be millions more in a rough shell around the earth fading into the background..? |

That might work as an illustration of souls alright.
Although "absence from the body is presence with The Lord",
so, if you're saved when you die, I don't think there's much
travel time involved. You leave your body, then you're
with Jesus Christ.
If this is supposed to be a Rapture illustration, ...if being
'caught up' is indeed a rapture..., then it's IN your body.
The Rapture will be whole, living people being caught up to
be with Yeshua, even when the graves are opened, leaving
the prehistoric evolutionary ooze behind.
Also an indication of a destination of somesort might be good too.
It looks sort of like just the opposite event now.
Kind of like they are being ejected into the outer darkness. |

thanks for the reply, I will work on it a bit. as for the whole "travel" thing, I was always taught that we will be meeting the lord in the clouds prior to the tribulation period (in the process of being raptured), and not going directly to Heaven. Not sure how true my messed up brain is comprehending this stuff or not though. _________________

That's not messed up at all !!!
If you're "pre-trib" that's pretty accurate alright.
The thing that applies to your painting is...
those of us being caught up to be with Yeshua
will be in our physical bodies. And...they should
all be headed towards Jesus in the clouds.
(That thing about "travel time" is about when you
die, not if you're raptured.) |

heh, sorry ... i just had to post.... as far as the picture itself i think this is a great idea [me being christian], especially as how you don't see toooo much pro-christian art anymore.... at least in my experience, but
in the bible is says many will be called, but FEW [ An indefinitely small number of persons or things (matthew)] will be chosen... anyways i don't wanna get into a religious debate... i just saw "millions" being raptured, and it may be close to that many, cuz i'm not the one "rapturing" heh... but all in all..
i think this picture could use some "more souls" ....also i think the background
i dunno if you were just planning to use b&w stars, but it would look awsome if they were traveling towards some type of ... space/dust clouds [really colorful]..
yeah.. it's like 6 in the morning so i'm just talking to talk now... this is my first post in a while..
g'day

It says, regarding those who are 'caught up'. there will be two
at the well, one will go, one will stay.
There will be two in the field, one will go, one will stay.
... and so on... that seems to indicate that in the areas where
Christians reside, about half the population will be 'caught up'.
That's a LOT of people.
And for at least the THIRD time... a LOT of people means a lot of
people! IN THE RAPTURE IT WON'T BE JUST OUR SOULS
THAT GO... IT WILL BE US IN OUR PHYSICAL LIVING BODIES.
In the twinkling of an eye.
I think "many are called but few are choosen" has something to do with
people who go directly into the ministry, like Pastors. It doesn't mean
the number of people who are saved. |
