HI all I have owned my wacom for a year now and had one experience with painting and gave up quickly. I recently decided to pick up the pen again and give it a go. here is what I have so far two works in progress. I don't have a system yet to start with the base color and the shadow color so the begining takes me a while to get the color right. I know I must just keep painting no matter what thats the only way to get better and learn the brushes. These were done in photoshop only. any critique's or advice will be helpful.

Cool work so far. You remind me of me Razz hehe.

Basically what I see is you need to work on your colour the most, proportions seem to be pretty good. Weirdly enough thats the area I have most difficulty in.

Though, the colour seems WAY off. Firstly the ladies hair seems to be strictly black and white. Nothing is ever really black and white and you should put reflected colours from a background and a background in there. I think it's always best to start of with a very basic background because people always have light bouncing off them from their surroudings.

e.g. this is one I did (i'm not pro i'm still amateur)

(note: i cheated a little in this using the eye dropper (which is a bad thing to do, but i am learning so i'm not using it anymore)

You see how there is alot of green in the hair. IF you cant there is. Also I dont know why there is green, but the photo just seemed to turn out like that. Also you get weird things like that red part in the hair one mine.

But with the baby one of yours, there is alot of brightness on each side of his face, wiht one ear alot dark then teh other etc... He seems to have a very brown orange skin with soem yellow areas. The reflection in his eyes are reflecting a light blue and or green.

But yeah I'm just an amateur so someone else might want to correct me. But I think starting with simple background does help alot and can get your colours more on the spot.

Looking good! I could use a little more contrast in the skin value, but thats just a matter of preference.
