Hello guys! Just thought I'd register and post a piece I was working on. Holy crap, there's a lot of talent here! This is the first time I've done anything in Photoshop art wise (most of my photoshop work was for magazine recolors and stuff). This is the first time I've actually used a wacom tablet for anything other than editing out zits on someone's face, lol!
I'm new to this digital art stuff, though. I've done some things in the past, but that was over 13 years ago, and on traditional media. Art has always had a place in my heart, but work has taken the 'fun' out of it. Anyway, I'm trying to learn more about anatomy so I can better myself, and also get more familiar with my wacom for this kinda stuff.
As I said, this is my first time diving into the media, so please be gentle. And as always, C&C, paintovers are always welcomed!
Here's the first piece. It's not done of course. I love the 'gothic' look and I'm trying to get the hang of lighting and ambience. I dropped the sketch of the girl over the BG so I can see if the placement was okay. Sketch was done in photoshop.
The second is just added rough colors. I was trying to test out to see where I was heading. I added some spiderwebs and stuff for ambience so it can 'motivate' me a bit more. I'm still going to add a lightsource coming in from the top and back, so I'll do that when I get more time.
Thanks guys! ![Very Happy](images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif) |

I like the outfit you designed for her. I'm not an authority on figure drawing or anything, but I thought I'd do a quick outline to help the pose a little bit.
I think your head is a little large for her body. I would suggest extending the canvas a little bit so you can fit her legs in (of course, this is how I draw figures, which may be very different from your own personal preference). Also, I don't think having her wings clip out of the canvas is a good idea compositinally. In the overpaint I did, I added a little perspective to the wings too, since her left torso is rotated forward more. To add a little dynamism, try drawing the figure's line of action (the green line going down her torso and into her waist)
As for the image as a whole, I would suggest re-thinking the overall composition. One reason is because I'm kinda confused about the perspective on the structure in the background (cemetary?) I assume you want to give the impression that the structure is large, but the size of the cobwebs throw the sense of scale off, I think. They're a fantastic idea that I think you could use throughout the rest of the piece, but a change in composition may be necessary.
Are you painting all on one layer?
I hope I made some sense, and while I'm far from being anywhere nearly as skilled as other users on this board, I hope I offered some sound advice. I look forward to seeing your update ![Very Happy](images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif) |

Ah ok! Thanks, the outline helps a lot!
I was originally having her just kind of 'stand' there in the crypt. So I guess that's what I'll concentrate on. I'll try and redo another sketch of her in a bit. Maybe even just sketch a whole different person in there (cause I'm really bad at legs).
You're right. I did mess up on the wings though. I added them as I was colorizing it (as you can see it not being part of the original sketch). I'll drop that idea for now as I'm trying to make it simple for myself, lol!
I will also keep the cobwebs since you seem to like the idea so much. And add them a bit later perhaps when I'm done with the composition first.
Thanks for your input, YeeWu! Oh, and no. It's all layered. ![Very Happy](images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif) _________________
