I am always impressed by architectural types of drawings, or different kind of machines with lots of mechanical parts, and I would really like to learn to draw these myself.

To be more specific, I would like to learn to draw things like cities, different types of buildings, "human made" environments, etc. I gave it a few tries, but I can't get it right. The thing I'm having the most difficulties is to make it feel real, sometimes I screw up the perspective and the 3D feeling. So I'd like to get better at that. If anyone knows real architectural tricks and technics it would be awesome.

Some examples:

http://www.ryanchurch.com/ryanchurch_AC01.htm

This looks so real! I mean, everything is perfect, shapes, dimentions, perspective, 3D illusion, and it has so many details, yet if you examine it closer, it's very simple. I'd like to get something similar.

For the second part, machines with mechanical parts...Again, I have trouble getting the 3D illusion of the different mechanical parts and espacially the feeling of "deepness", example:

http://www.ryanchurch.com/ryanchurch_image11.htm

This drawing is the perfect example of what I'm looking for...It looks like if you were looking through a window, as if there is some 10-15m in front of you and you could almost touch every little thing, it's literally puping up from the screen!. That's the part I keep screwing up...
I see some horizontal and vertical lines on this drawings, I guess it helps with the perspective, I'd like to have more details on this technique.

I hope it's not too confusing Wink
Thanks.

Someday I hope my art is "literally puping up from the screen!" too! Laughing

On a more serious note, check the gnomon dvd's they are exactly what you are looking for.

Nope, I didn't see anything useful. The prices of the DVDs are rape.
He hardly shares his techniques as he paints for 2 hrs, just babbling stuff
about what he plans to do and stuff.

I guess it's okay if you want to see how he works, but other than that.
Useless

I checked the gnomon school websites and I found some screenshots from various tutorials. It looks great and exactly what I'm looking for. But is there any way I can get these on the internet? I don't feel paying 69 USD for each DVD Confused Kazaa or something like that? Or maybe some of you have them?

isnt how he works his technique? perhaps you would like him to show you years of drawing things in perspective and looking at photographs of lighting conditions. ryan gives good demos and his approach is pretty easy and intuitive you have a moderate amount of knowledge behind you. these things arent meant as "paint like ryan church in one easy lesson."

Perhaps the value of the dvds depends on how much you want to see him work or how much of a fan you are of his work.
There are other things that are far more useful for helping you to be a better artist. Cheaper. Way cheaper.

No kidding. I was bored the other day, so I thought, "what a grand opportunity to head down to the local merchant and acquire some pornography!" When I arrived, I immediately picked up a rather enticing piece by acclaimed actress, Aria Giovanni. The clerk relayed some disturbing information: the purchase price was 65 dollars! I was in a bind. Satisfy my lust for hot girl-on-girl frottage, or pay the local hydrogaseous company for my monthly electropower fees? I won't dally further into the details, except to say I browsed the internet with no pants that night.
