hi, i'm going dual monitor soon and have some queations about how to get the setup as practical as possible.

1. how do you people with dual motitor + wacom setups work, and how do you handle the stretched ratio when a waom is mapped across two monitors?

do you use the wacom only on one monitor and the mouse for the second, or do you have two tablets? how do set up your applications windows for beeing within effective reach?

2. the monitor i have now is a 17' tft i run in 1280x1024, and i'm not really sure where to go with the second one. i sure feel a bit cramped working in 1280 as for now, but would a dual 1280 setup solve this, or do i really want one of them to run in 1600x1200?

i know i would certainly want a 19 or 21 inch 1600x1200 if would only work with one monitor, but would a dual 1280 setup somehow make up for it in terms of practical workflow and the feeling of resolutional claustrophobia? ;P

any opinions on dual screening, resolution and the likes within photoshop and maya would be greatly appreciated. thanx!

I stack my monitors and set the Wacom in portrait mode. That way there is no wasted real estate on the tablet and the aspect ration is perfect for each monitor.

The picture above shows Photoshop with the drawing window on the bottom monitor and the resources up top. I set the Photoshop navigation pallette very large on the top monitor so I can always see the whole picture no matter how far I've zoomed in for detail work...

Works well for me. I just had to build a wooden cubby-hole box for the bottom monitor so I had something stable to set the top monitor on. The box has no backside, so the monitor gets plenty of air and doesn't overheat.

Also, notice witht he Wacom (9 x 12) in portrait mode, I've built a little keyboard table that can slide right over the Wacom when I have a lot of keyboard stuff to do. All-in-all a lot of stuff packed into a small footprint.

eyewoo - that's a really original setup i must say! not sure if it would work for me though. but i really like the idea of having the navigation window almost maxed on one monitor. ah, i can't wait. Smile

any more stories to share? Wink i'd like to hear your opinions on resolution..
