Hello everyone! Long time lurker, *very* casual poster.
After having attended the Massive Black workshop over the past weekend, I realize that my traditional skills (drawing, painting, rendering, color theory, etc) are woefully lacking.
Here's the catch: I am currently attending AI of Seattle (yes, *that* institute) and have been doing so for 2 years. AIS has taught me a lot of what I have wanted to learn (PS, Max, Maya, etc) but I feel it lacks in the traditional art department. This is not AIS's fault, however, as it's not billed as a fine arts school.
So in order to bolster my traditional skills, I am looking to supplement my education at AIS by taking classes at other schools. Right now, I've got my focus on Pratt Fine Arts Center (http://www.pratt.org/) and Seattle Academy of Fine Arts (http://www.seattlefineart.org/about%20us.html).
I am hoping someone will have some exposure or knowledge of these facilities or other facilities in the Seattle area.
Any help is greatly appreciated! |

Hi, I dont know much about the Seattle Academy but I think Pratt has some good instructors. If I were you I would just go there and meet the people teaching the classes, check out thier skills. I went to Cornish in the fine art dept. The classes I took were much too loose in terms of actually learning to draw the figure in an academic way. However the life drawings I saw coming out of the illustration dept there were pretty solid. Check that out if you have a bunch of cash to burn. I'm sure Pratt is much more affordable. |

UW has a good art program for a University. My stepmom got her bachelors degree there. |
