Yes I've been discussing this problem with Wacom without a solution for my problem yet.
Problem:
I open Adobe Photoshop, open a new file and move it to my external screen, start drawing using my tablet and my computer freezes(sometimes it freezes as soon as the pen hits the tablet sometimes I can draw for half an hour no problem and then it freezes. so it is completely random). If I do this same procedure but instead of photoshop using Painter it works just fine.
To solve the problem I've tried:
connecting only my tablet to my computer without the external screen and it works fine in my laptop TFT screen.
it even works fine if my external screen is plugged into my computer but if I draw into the file while it's on my laptop's screen.
using my normal mouse for drawing on the external screen works fine.
updating the tablet driver.
deleting tablet settings/preferences.
deleting photoshop preferences.
changing photoshop plug-in name to no-plug-ins.
My tablet works fine in Painter when drawing on the external screen but it freezes when doing the same thing in photoshop.
[edit]
new details for my problem.
It seems like it's not really my computer that freezes but maybe just photosshop or something else... when the freezing happends I can still here the music playing in the background if I have my iTunes on. Also the mouse will freeze for a moment but if I still try drawing on the file I can see the green light in my wacom tablet turning on whenever I touch the tablet with the pen tip(or eraser)(but nothing happends on the screen). Also after a moment my mouse turns into a normal cursor and I can move it with my mouse(not the tablet mouse) but the tablet pen doesn't work.
And when the freezing happends I can here a quiet whining noise coming of my computer. Also I can't force quit any of my applications.
[/edit]
Here is my setup:
PowerBook Titanium G4
667MHz
1Gt SDRAM
ATI RageM6
Mac OS X 10.3.4
Samsung 19" SyncMasterDF External screen
Wacom Tablet Intuous A5
This is what Wacom is suggesting:
I think this could still be a problem problem with memory hardware (harddisk or graphics ram). Painter and PS have different handlings for memory ...
Please if anyone have faced the same or similar problems I would be more than glad if you could share your knowledge. Anyone who could figure what the problem is, help is highly appreciated!
Thanks a ton!
Jussi

Small chance that this will help, but anyway... Are you sure that your computer is really freezing or is it only that the wacom freezes? Try turning the pen and make a stroke with the eraser.
My wacom freezes at the first stroke in PS too (but on PC) and with a stroke of the eraser I get it back to work. That only happened since I have an Intuos 2.
Give it a try, perhaps it works for you too... |

Unfortunately I have no Mac so that I could try things out. It seems to be a PS problem. What version of PS do you use? If it is 6, then check if you have the patch for 6.0.1 installed (PC version of PS needs this one. Dont know if there is such a patch for the Mac version as well).
Other than that, perhaps try an older Wacom driver, or try another USB port.
Perhaps there is something in the Wacom settings that might help you.
Check if there is a new driver for your graphic board available.
Sorry, I only can guess here... |
