The image I am beggining to like. However the detail dosent draw my eyes anywhere, it overwhelms me. The reason I feel is that as you go farther from you the details decrease due to how our eyesite works. They also get bleached out so to speak by the atmosphear (however you say it).
Basic composition I love all and all!
So what do the words on the sign mean? _________________

going to what al ain said, the main reason why all the detail is so overwhelming and doesn't lead your eyes anywhere is mainly an issue of value structure. You'll notice that the trees, log and sign are all about the same value as eachother (even though there is a lot of value difference inside each one). Try shrinking the image down as if you were looking at it from far away, and maybe even turning it black and white so all you see is the values. How does your eye move through the piece? does it flow or is it jumping from place to place? Just play around or make some sketches on the side where you just figure out the basics of the lights and darks in the piece so that it draws your eye through the piece. Sometimes its easy to get so caught up in the details that you lose sight of the basic abstract structure of a piece. |
