Maybe someone can help me with this. There are two books for sale that i can find
1) The J.C. Leyendecker Poster Book
2) The J.C. Leyendecker Collection: American Illustrators Poster Book
1. ~$75
2. ~$30
Whats the difference between the two? I can see that 2nd book is 48 pages, and was published in 95. How large is the 1st one? Does anything but the out of print status justify the price hike? I am asking because i cant find any details on the 1st book
Would appreciate any info. |

I recently bought a J.C. Leyendecker by Michael Schau
for around $60, I think I found it on amazon used books or something like that... it was selling in the local book store for almost $200!
I'm sure either one of those is good, I think I have the 2) one you mentioned, totally worth it either way. _________________ purE |

get the poster book. great repros from the original paintings, not from old magazines. You can see the pencil grid in some.
Totally outraaageous work. I could live to a thousand and never get there, so I am not trying. Hmm kinda how I feel about oil painting in general. |

oh cool, thought no one saw this! thanks for replying
ultrashu, $60? u lucky bastard!!! i recently lost Schau in an auction for $200, some prick sniped me 10 seconds before auction close... can u believe it? i even suspect the original seller because the auction was anonymous and he wanted more money.... first edition, brand new... oh well. thanks for your thoughts.
spooge, thanks for the comment. i just found your older post about this - its the one by Watson-Guptill Publications... ie not the american illustrator edition, amazon is chock full of them
by the way.. doing a lot of gouache here.. i can now see, to an extent, how both you and mead work and think (and why the oil comments). |

oh yeah, If you're ever in NYC
go to the illustration house, they have some originals there that they're happy to show you if you ask... howard pyle's and others too. insane. I always thought his paintings are really opaque but its quite transparent... you can see a lot of canvas and damn his brushstokes are insane. I wish I knew what kind of medium/brushes he used. _________________ purE |
