This is my second painting from a still life and it's hard as hell :bash: :bash: The lemon's shadows made me want to kill myself. I just couldn't match it...

Anyway, I realize i didnt do a background, but this is just a study, not a good painting so i'll do that later once i fix these things.

Basically I know there are lots of things wrong iwth it, but could you make suggestions?

I know the perspective is off first of all, but I planned on fixing the handle (painting over the middle part) so you dont have to mention that.

One other thing, the pot was ceramic (not glazed) so there weren't any reflections or anything i saw. but it still looks fake without them so i guess is hould add them in even though they aren't there?

Well, it doesn't look too bad. You're right about the perspective...the pot's opening is a little off in terms of width, curve, and angle. Don't risk adding in the reflections, I say. It would be all to easy to completely go overboard with them. Plus, reflections are complicated enough that they wouldn't be very practical without reference.
All I really have to say is that you should make sure you vary your tones by using more than one tube color and white. A closer look at that lemon will reveal all sorts of red and blue tints which will really make your piece come alive.
By the way, those white, criss-crossed hightlights on the avocodo look REALLY great. So much is suggested despite their simplicity.
Keep it up, and hopefully someone will start replying to your posts besides me. Smile

hmm, thanks again for your replies! Laughing

i say hmm because i tried to use lots of colors Confused i read at utorial that showed the difference between painting a lemon with yellow and white and with yellow +many other colors. after reading that i never use a color strictly with white, but i geuss it looks that way huh? Neutral It seems when i try to add other colors (like the lemon for example) it would just end up as green or brown and wouldnt look right at all..
maybe its because i dont see the blue and green tints ;x
