That is better, than most people starting out, but, i cant help ya, much, i am still learning it too.
Look around here, there is lots of anatomy links, and tutorials everywhere. If not here, links to other placees with it.

For a start, you may want to stick to a primary light source only until you get the hang of that on the human form. Then it may be good to go with a second light source for a more interesting, and filled out look. As far as your anatomy goes, look around at the tutorials around, and pay attention to magazines, etc, even mirrors. Remember how things look and their relationship to one another. That's the whole key to Anatomy.
AS per your picture.......
The far side of the chest looks fine to me, however, wehre you lose it is in the close side pectoral(chest) muscle. It shouldn't be that long, and is working against the arm that you put in. Maybe try a pose with less foreshortening, because that can cause alot of complications unless you know what you're doing. So..... that's off, your shoulder on the close side has too much muscle on it. On the far side, the bicep ends at the elbow just below the pectoral muscle, not at the waist. LAst of all, his head is too high, and is not attached to his spine. Think of the chest as a barrel, and the line you put for the middle of he abs etc, should have a corresponding line in the back to place the spine.
The one major tip I can give you, is to plot everything out with stickmen like figures. I usually place balls at each of the joints that I know are moving, so that I have reference in how they're moving, and how the muscles of the body will move to make that motion happen.
All in all the key is experience. LIke I said, just start noticing the little things that give you visual clues about who a person is, or certain relationships in their features. This can be done with anything that gives you images of the human form. It's this familiarity that will make you better at just making these figures up from the top of your head. |
