Hi there Matthew, your style has really come along since I last used to browse here!
Things I love about this piece:
The colours are really appropriate for the setting, nice browns and blues.
The lighting is employed really well; there's a defininte sense of depth, yet we see slightly abstract use of layers (in that the tree/foliage is seen 'through' the mens' bodies)
Things I'm not so keen on:
There is a chalky circle shape about the middle man's head. To me this draws my eye right into the centre of the image, and upsets the composition somewhat.
I'm not so sure about the facial expressions of the characters either, as they don't seem to convey much emotion (almost as if they are being half-hearted in whatever they are doing).
Anyway, great stuff, I like! _________________ !!! |

i think you might be over doing the texture in places, like on the lower part of the mans shirt. and the overlapping circle brush in the sky looks very photoshoppy to me also, even if it is an interesting effect.
the forest background though is pretty nice, i really like the transition of colors back there. The army looks very good as well, i think the faces turned out better on the guys right behind the front guy. Definitely a good sense of distance on the army and forest, and i like the highlights on the main guys armor.
I think it might look better if it were cropped a little differently. i'm scrolling the topic review window to see how it looks best. i think if it were cut off around the middle of the guys chest and halfway up the leafy part of the front tree, it would seem a bit more focused.
pretty good thought matthew, i like the colors a lot. |

Very interesting. The colors in he first one are quite nice. Especially the blue-purple mix on the top.
I am not sure about the composition though...
I think the focus is too much on the first person to the right.
Maybe that's what you want, than it's okay of course.
Eighter my monitor is too dark (Iquess it is) or the second one has too much contrast
Anyways, keep it up Matthew |

Hi Matthew!
I liked both of your pictures a lot. "Negative" darkness in 2nd one is very good idea
I agree with other's opinion about what's good/bad.
You should pay more attention to feeling of space i think (as you did before)
Keep it up! ![Smile](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

hey Matthew
you know I respect your art and I must say this piece is amazing.
I remember when you first joined the boards and had not so many posts and works behind you, also had some trouble with proportions.. but you're really a good example how people can LEARN to draw, and learn fast.
cheers dude! like the colors and the depth in the first pic.
kinda like magic: the gathering pic
