sorry if a thread like this has been made before.

here's an idea i came up with, i hope some people feel the same like me if i say this could be of some use. post any progress shots. old new, reference or not, anything goes. the idea is to see how everyone works, not only the more experienced ones, and hopefully some good tips will arise from this.

chose this subject because i feel i need practice painting trees and stuff like that, without relying on textured brushes.

I've read about the idea before ... but I don't think there's any more or less recent thread like that.

I like your image.
Maybe foreground, middleground and background could be seperated more.
Especially the background stands out too much IMO.

My contribution: I used reference ... from a movie. I don't think I should put the image here.

Just goes to show that the way I work is REALLY chaotic Embarassed

I figured I would post this here as well. I just posted a larger version of the finished picture (and the progress) in a thread.

i'm glad this thread is taking off. just how i imagined, so many artists, so many styles, so many techniques. thank you all for contributing. Just a few comments:

Andy: she reminds me a little of Jordana Brewster(fast & the furious). i'm probably not right though. it's nice, but a stronger statement of light is needed

Max: the blurry to sharp technique reminds me of Roberto Campus' tutorials. very nice!

Paintspot: i meant you should post progress shots of one work, to show your technique. it doesn't matter though, great progress you have made!

Grenadine: it's interesting! i learned from the beginning to block in all the shapes first, but it's nice to see painting part after part can also work well.

All the other stuff in here is also very impressive so keep up the good work you guys above. :)

I had to do something for this thread so I made a portrait for 1,5 hours, just scribbled around a bit and this is what came out of it. :)

oDD: I love the 2nd image. Cool
I think it would be helpful to see how you work with layers.
Maybe if you can find the time? ... pretty please?

Grenadine: Cool! Looks a lot like Seegmiller's style.

Nice idea for a thread, and very interesting stuff already in here.

Okay, then also one from me. Normally I dont keep all the steps of a picture once Im finished with it. But from that one I still had enough:

Torstein - That is really impressive. :)

adev001 - pretty neat one, but I think it was over-worked in the end.

This thread should also be a Sticky

Matthew: thanks

Andy: thanks. about the layers - i don't use them too much. Especialy you can see it on the second painting. Most time if i create a new layer it's only beacuse i don't want to mess up the painting, so i'f i don't like what i painted in the last few minutes i delete the layer. If i want to define a shape i paint with a background color around it instead of painting that shape on a seperated layer and than working with masks. This way things don't look as they were gluted to the background. On the first pic i used an overlay layer to change the background color in the beginning, and than again to change the color of the floor. Overlay layer dosen't kill the texture but you don't have too much control over the color so don't use it too much. hope this makes any sense. if you got more specific questions ask.
