The latest issue of the magazine, "ARTnews" has an article titled "The 10 Most Expensive Living Artists." They are:
Lucian Freud
Jasper Johns
Jeff Koons
Brice Marden
Bruce Nauman
Robert Rauschenberg
Gerhard Richter
Richard Serra
Frank Stella
Cy Twombly
Most, including one of my personal top ten favorites - Cy Twombly, are abstractionists.
Among my work, I also include some abstract expressions. I haven't shown them before, but why not. Here's one.

Colors and composition make the picture very beutiful. Actually, I've liked your previously posted experimental pieces also! It's nice when pictures leave some room for your own imagination.
It's a shame that there is so little abstract stuff posted in Sijun. |

i dont like abstract, i'm quite happy about so much non-abstract work on sijun
but eyewoo, thats nice, ehm clors and stuff,
but i like your other pics more...
i think my prob is, that in my opinion every noob
is able to paint such a "abstract" whatever,
sure, its about emotions and stuff, but i want to
see the skills of the artist in a picture ![Laughing](images/smiles/icon_lol.gif) _________________ *

Neff... perhaps every noob can produce one interesting abstract picture, but to be able to create a body of good and original work is quite a different matter... And apparently if one is able to do it well, it can be higly lucrative - On that list of 10, their pieces sell in the hundreds of thousands and even millions and they are still alive to enjoy it... ![Smile](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) _________________ HonePie.com

wuw I really like the second one here eyewoo, that first one is pretty cool aswell but I feel that the white is taking overhand a bit.
This part I like the most in that first piece:
Regarding abstract. I don't have anything against abstract art as long it is not forced and it is paintings. There are often some exhibits when they are hanging bicycles and such in the roof and call it art, this I have a problem with.
The forcing part, yes nowadays the artists somehow is being forced to be abstract otherwise they are not just artists but romantic illustrators as to what my color theory teacher keeps calling my stuff. This is not of my likings cause then the abstract is being only for the sake of the abstract.
Ohh well I am rambling.
That second one works very well in my opinion eyewoo, perfect balance.
see you

I think a lot of abstract art is interesting to look at, but I've never understood why certain ones are considered 'genius' or worth zillions. Eyewoo, can you tell me what these are trying to convey, or what they mean to you personally? I'm not putting down this type of art-I'm truly interested. |

that's nice, mr eyewoo. I like abstract art but I can't get into twombly much. he doesn't give much, often his pictures are almost totally empty but for a few marks that are not interesting. no more interesting than your average first graders handwriting anyway. what do you like about him?
I saw this painting by james rosenquist in houston. it has representational elements but it's power is in it's abstract qualities. it blew me away. also in houston is a whole cy twombly museam/gallery, most of the work, to me, is overshadowed by the wood floors. |

I'm not sure what it is about Twombly that blows me away, but he does. Surely you have to see his work in person. Repros or webshots don't really do it for his work.
I first saw it in a Twombly gallery at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. You view his work as the scribblings of a first grader. When I see it, I see an incredible sense of composition and balls of brass! _________________ HonePie.com

I agree with virtually everything you said, man. Especially the part about the abstract being dominant and "romantic illustrators". My art teacher classifies me as an "illustrator" since I draw and paint and do digital work instead of making dresses out of meat (a real life work he cited in a critique was just that). As a result I get pretty crummy marks comparitively to others. Its a pants situation. |

eyewoo~ I really like that second one Phil, the colors and composition really work for me.
Meaty Ogre~ That James Rosenquist piece kicks ass. Kinda has a graph influence, which I really like. That's probably the first abstract painting I've ever seen that got me excited about abstract. Good stuff, thanks for sharing.
balistic~ That's actually pretty tight dude. _________________ l i q u i d w e r x |

ten... These are designed to be printed and displayed at at 42 inches square (about 107 cm.). They are meant to be displayed in a smaller room than an atrium or public building's massive entrance... i.e. an individual's home. Anyway that's the way I see them.
Totally agree with your third paragraph. Right on! _________________ HonePie.com

i think i really love that last one the most phil...
the second one, as already said, is definately a favorite too...i really enjoy the 'creamyness' of it...ive always loved abstract art and always intergrated it into my work.(not digitally) but here i combined collage with digital for the first time...the dark and brown one isnt digital though--- these were kinda my first "real" collages

eyewoo: I'm always a little shy when it comes to abstract art as I think I'm one of those people who just don't "get it", you might say. But that second pic that you posted... I just can't stop staring at it. I guess I couldn't really make an educated comment about the artistic principles involved, but wow, I just love it. |
