I went and saw Hellboy this evening and was fairly entertained. It didn't blow me away, but I was entertained. It was just about what I expected and Ron did a great job as big Red. The rooftop scene was a riot. The fight scense were good and the opening was good in that it set a good tone for the rest of the film. I didn't feel like there was too much they tried to cram in one movie and I didn't feel like they left me hangin'. All in all good stuff. It did have a few bad moments, but, HEY, the comics were cheesy too. In final defense it was at least worthy of my $7.75 more than the last two Matrix movies.
Go see it if you're into monster movies with a bit more of an occult bent and you can stand some, well placed (most of the time) cheesy banter.

I was thoroughly entertained the first half of the movie. Then I thought it got a little boring. Mortal sin for a movie of that genre.
I give it-
design- A
story- C
characters- A
script- B
X-Men 2 stands as my favorite comic book movie. |

Yeah, I actulally cringed at the love interest side of the story. They could've done a bit better job with it or not put it in at all, although I understand why they put it in and I would've missed the roof top scene of course.
I went and visited the movie site today and laughed at the comic bio of HB though.
Ah its funny too that the young professor Broom character reminds me of Mike M. himself. Must be nice knowing what you're gonna look like when you're older.
And, yes, X2 is a standard hard to beat for a comic book adaption to a movie.

i still think that "batman returns" is by far a better adaption from comic book to film than x-men 2... _________________ It's nice to be important, but more important to be nice - Scooter |

just saw it...
i thought it was good, not great, but entertaining, had some good humour, made me laugh. most of the characters were great.
many ppl are complaining about the story.
just about every single hellboy comics story is like the one in the movie. a badass demon or whatever appears somewhere and hellboy basically goes in and kicks it's sorry ass. i like the comics and i didn't expect anything more from the movie.
worth watching. |
