Hi.
First let me say that I know that this topic has been discussed before. I have used the search function but has not been able to find the answear to my questions.
Im thinking of bying a Wacom and at this moment it stands between a Graphire3 XL or Intuos2 A5. I understand that the Graphire lacks Tilt support, Airbrush option and also has lower pressure levels.
Is this something that you could live without when painting? How many in here for example use the tilt function when they paint? It would be cool if someone have tried both the Graphire and the Intuos2 and could give me an objective perspective. Is the Graphire really suitable for painting, which is the only thing Im going to use it for. Are 512 levels of pressure-sensitivity enough?
Thank you. |

have you used a wacom b4? i used to have an A5 ADB tablet from 1992 b4 i built a PC in '96 then i got an Artpad II (both had the same amount of pressure levels 256) then last year i bought an intuos2 - the control of pressure i get compaired to the past tablets i owned is just increadible!
but if you've never used i don't think you'll notice any difference with it.. i've not tried playing with the tilt option.. i must give it a try when i get the chance ![Wink](images/smiles/icon_wink.gif) |

king, for me the only reason to use a intuos over the graphire is the size of the the tablet. for real. I've used three different wacoms with over a year on each one. the graphire is fine for painting, and wears a great price tag, it's just that the larger tablet is more comfortable and well.. bigger. I use two monitors at one time so the big tablet is needed to be able to stretch the width of 2 screens. One more minor thing is that after using the intuos for a while the graphire pen, which is not padded like the intous, is less comfortable and my hand will start to hurt a little on a long sitting. |

Hi,
Graphire tablets have (as mentioned before) 512 levels of pressure sensitivity, lower resolution than the Intuos tablets, and do not support Tilt.
Intuos tablets have 1024 levels of pressure sensitivity, higher resolution than the Graphire tablets, and do support Tilt.
I use a 6 x 8 Intuos 2 tablet, though originally I purchased a 9 x 12 Intuos 2. After trying the larger tablet and seeing that it took up way too much space on my desktop, I exchanged it for the 6 x 8 Intuos 2. To give you an idea of the footprint, the 6 x 8 tablet is approximately 13" wide by 10" high.
The cost is considerably less too, than the 9 x 12 Intuos 2 tablet.
The size is just fine for anything I want to do and from what I've read on various lists, newsgroups, and message boards, the 6 x 8 Intuos 2 is the most popular size.
Good luck, whichever tablet you decide on, but make sure it's a Wacom. They make the best tablets and their tech support is not only free.. they're very helpful and friendly too.

boyoboy!
I must have been tired when I typed the message above.
I've made some edits in bold to correct:
13" wide by 1" high to say 13" wide by 10" high
and....
90 x 12 Intuos 2 to say 9 x 12 Intuos 2
I'm tired tonight too, so maybe there are some more typos I missed.
Sorry folks.

I can't live without the tilt on my intous. It's just awesome.
goodfellaRUBY> the tablet registers the angle you're holding the pen in. Doesn't do much in photoshop (might be wrong there), but in Painter a whole new level of coolness opens up. 90% of the Painter brushes respond to tilt. it's just wild, you must try it. _________________ www.mattiassnygg.com
