hi, im a 17 year old kid in high school, and these are somethings ive done in class. we had to pick an area of concentration. i chose kites. i don't fly kites, or even particularly like kites. I think i chose it just out of the sake that my peers were picking such subjects as "losing my religion" and "depression" and "effects of drugs on kids." it just sort of irks me when kids pick stuff like this to artistically express, i think they feel with subjects like religion they're being deep or meaningful. (apparently my teacher agrees aswell) at the time i chose kites because its just a kite, and nothing more, and i dont want it to mean anything more. im not exactly sure how to do this uploading thing, so i will try.
(also, sorry my scanner isn't operational at the moment so i took these with my 2.3mp digital camera... so yea, not going to get the same results)
just something silly sketched in math class.. not the kite theme.
latex pain on cardboard, i needed an assignment done in 1 period, so rushed.
running out of kite ideas so i just used this cheap excuse.
probably my favorite, done with prismacolor pencil.

nothing more.
everyone in my class assumed this was a terrorist, i just wanted to draw a middle-eastern man.
again...running out of ideas.
..he's sick?
i swear to you the rope is a kite, it's a little blurry from my hands shaking while taking the picture. suicide by kite.
thanks for looking, hope the images work. _________________ ...it's a lie. to each his own. to each his own...or so i've been told. |

hmmm, you say you chose kites to break away from the loaded "meaningful" subjects like religion and drugs, but then you do one thats a suicide.... |

Well I think these are damn good. You've got a really solid style, I think. These all have a very appealing simplicity to them. |

based off of Jean Paul Sartre's play "no exit" where 3 people are in hell, and hell is a room with couches and no exit.
roman, no reference.
no reference.
any comments other than wit welcomed, thanks. _________________ ...it's a lie. to each his own. to each his own...or so i've been told. |

Impressive range of styles in your studies of the kite. Have you studied modern art (or 20th Century art movements) because it sure looks like you draw a lot of influence from cubism, dynamic suprematism, expressionism, and other -ism's. You definitely have a lively and dynamic style to your artwork with the shapes and bright colors.
I love how you chose to do a kite, because your'e right about the heavy, controversial issues that people choose to make a focus of their artwork. Because when you do that your art's form gets bogged down by its content. When you shoose a content that's simple then you have a lot more freedom with the form.
Keep posting your stuff! It's welcome here, Youngblood. _________________ "Don't try to be original, just try to be good" - Paul Rand |

I find the stuff with the kites to be a bit dull, mainly because I've seen so many similar things. You have a couple images involving stools and I can see the potential for a really cool series of works involving that same stool put into different contexts. For some reason that seems much more appealing than kites (which are basically just triangle/diamonds). Its good to see you experimenting with such a wide range of different styles. |
