I made a rough sketch for a picture. How is the composition and the colors? I'd make a better picture to show, but alot of the roughs around here are better than my final pictures . Any critisicm in anything is greatly appreciated.
if that dosen't work then... http://www20.brinkster.com/mosspatch/dragonE.jpg |

Looks epic. That's nice. But it is hard to tell what's going on.
Do the colors give a good idea of what you are going for?
Or are they just to quickly show the composition and base colors?
Looks somewhere between traditional and digital. What is it?
It's only a rough so you will start from scratch if you get crits?
Or will you paint over that rough?
There is an area of interest. That is good!
There is too much going on in the right half of the image though IMO.
Maybe move some objects that are close to the center more to the left.
Get rid of some of the contrast in areas that are not close to the area of interest.
They distract.
Is that the kind of comment you were looking for?
Maybe you should try a simpler subject and get it right.
It can be more rewarding.
Personally I think it's a good idea to have some fun projects and some for studying going. _________________ http://www.conceptworld.org |

Yes, that is the kind of comment that I was looking for .
I'll take your advice, and anyone elses advice and apply it to another sketch. Once I get the composition and colors good I'll redraw it into a final version
The colors are the base colors just to give an idea what they are. I'll be doing this digitaly. I think it will be watercolors but I'm not absolutely sure yet. I might do some of it digitaly and some of it traditionaly. It won't be a realistic picture though.
thanks! |

I like it better.
Is it a detail shot or a new composition?
The big dragon comes out more. That dragon is really intriguing for me.
I feel dragged into the image more now. The whole thing reads better.
What are those objects in the middle though?
A tree and buildings behind it with flags attached to them?
Whatever they are they kinda "push me back ... out of the image".
Maybe you could define them better ... and push them a little more into the background.
Didn't get that there are baby dragons until I read it btw.
Maybe keep the ones in the bg and paint another, slightly bigger one in the middle ground.
Just a thought. _________________ http://www.conceptworld.org |

I changed the baby dragons to make them easier to see, and darker to try and have them blend into the background more.
I think that my composing is done, but more comments and suggestions are greatly appreciated.
edit:
before I start finals I ussualy turn the image backgwards becuase it helps me see what is realy there, and . I need to fix somethings up, heh. I'll post the new one later tonight.
edit 2:
I redrew the middle part of it. I also added in another dragon. should i keep this new dragon or get rid of it?
edit 3:
I noticed that the images are now broken... here is a link http://www20.brinkster.com/mosspatch/dragone5.jpg |
