this is kind of a test piece for this style, just to see what it's capable of. the illustration is far from perfect - the border design could be better, the composition and anatomy tightened, the bedsheets less of a mess - but the artistic progress it represents is more important to me.

as you can see, i've tossed reality out the window and emphasized abstraction. i wanted it to look as organic as possible, so i left the lines as rough pencils. the canvas is a huge 3030x6500 (it's shown at 15% above), which means i had to create a massive texture overlay by blending a bunch of smaller ones together. i've found texture overlays help not only to get an organic texture, but organic color blending. the patterns are brushed on through masks, although the mask themselves are also rough pencils.

inspirations, as usual, include klimt, mucha and japanese prints. again, i mixed aspects of eastern and western art.

I like it, nice style.

Although I can't figure out what those yellow-blue checkered things are... maybe pillows or just 'artistic shapes'?
I don't like the guys hand, the pose nor the thickness of the fingers. And I don't wanna know where is other hand is...
As you said, the sheets could be improved. Maybe a bit more depth?

For the rest... great, love his foot, the look in his face (can't buy love, guess he'll has to rent it) and the girl's poses.
