on my way back home last night i yet again found new things from sleep deprivation. (5 days (i think) without sleep and working.)

i noticed all sharp-ish things i saw (street stones, traffic signs, windows, yadda dadda) had a interesting halo kind of effect around them.. like i was viewing 50% of what i saw with green/blue 3d glasses, except the effect of 3d was jinxed, and it was blue/pink scale, and the color effect was only around the sharp-ish things. i also got a effect in my vision from time to time that's similar to the effect you get when you chew stuff or walk or whatever (basically move your head in short repetitive patterns) and stare at a monitor with 60 mhz refresh rate and really high resolution.

what more, when i blinked my eyes everything flashed as if i had a weak photo camera flashlight attached to my head that worked in sync' with my eye lids, and the flash occurred roughy 4-8 times with each blink.

anyone get these effects?

and no, this has nothing to do with medication or drugs or alcohol, mind you.

Im quite familliar with sleep deprivation but have never noticed these things. The weirdest things that have happened to me are dreaming with your eyes open and moving (the brain taking a break while the body continues) and itchy eyes.

something interesting happened to me once.

having some trouble sleeping, i used sleep pills. not hardcore stuff, just light (60 mg) that's supposed to help one fall asleep.

well, having used those for about a week or so, which was naturally something i was supposed to NOT do, i was already getting a bit fucked. well, one day after school i was tired as fuck and pissed off as fuck and pretty much fucked in every possible way and wanted just a few hours of sleep. of course i didn't realize i was already getting pretty wasted by the pills, and took a few more just to fall asleep (thinking "fuck it one won't get me asleep. i WANT to sleep.").. got 10 mins of sleep and woke up and started seeing things already. the result was loss of coordination and motorics for the afternoon and a bunch of rather nasty inquiries from the other people in the household.

afternoon goes along with nasty illness fits, yadda dadda.

by the evening my memory of the day is pretty much reset and yet again i go overdose happy on the sleep pills 'cause i just wanted to get some sleep. something goes wrong and i don't fall asleep, but my mind does.

the resulting night of hallucinogen level hallucinations was pretty interesting.

morphing objects gas giant metal dragons moving elements of your block house up and down people having 4 eyes (affected.. remember "heikki, put those extra 2 eyes away they're distracting me"?) - to name the least fucked up of the effects.

i didn't even know i was getting fucked in my head that night.. i realized it a few days later when i started getting back to normal.

*shrug*
that's what you get when you do the pills your shrink gives you.

Sleep deprivation can lead to all sorts of fucked up shit. Personally I can't eat or drink worth a fuck when I've not had much sleep, I get the shakes really badly, I wanna vomit all the time. The whole forgetting what you're doing thing and dreaming with your eyes open sounds familiar Spitfire. I had a solid 3 months of this shit, I thought I was dying, only getting at most an hour of sleep a night. The only thing that I found helps is a good smoke. It'll save your life man, healthier than any chemicals your shrink gives you. You'll feel naturally drowsy and happily hungry. I know I sound like a twat but a smoke helped me overcome a pretty scary time with sleep deprivation.

Hope this helps some :

p.s STAY AWAY FROM COFFEE, SPEED, CIGARETTES, EVEN GINSENG. (these things DON'T help)

Does anyone know the secret formula? :

whenever i am deprived of sleep, it seems as if everything around me is moving...one time i went without 2 days of sleep (minor leagues im guessing for faust) but everything seemed alive and really freaked me out... the texture on my walls, carpet, etc all seemed to turn and roll and shrink and expand

anyone ever get that feeling?

the stuff i'm having right now are just old school total loss of balance, coordination's jinxed, headache, feeling weakweakweak (physically) and stress.

so nothing that serious. luckily my current work assignment translates as "another week with one night of sleep" ...

This reminds me of "Fight Club"...

Anyway, I had my exams some weeks ago and I learned my stuff the whole night long. There were 2 days in my "learning week" where I didn't sleep. And like Psi Burn said, things are seeming to move...

It was dark outside and I put my head through the window (not through the class but I think you know what I mean), there are two lamp-posts near my house and I looked at them, the lights of the lamp-posts seemed to move around there original spot...

Strange?!...Aah well, it happens to everone I quess, doesn't it?

never been awake for more than two days. uh - i mean in a row, or something. ( sleep needed ? ) once i just stayed awake for fun for 36 hours. was not fun. I remember i was supposed to draw from a model in class, and everything i drew was incredibly fucked. anything from my own head looked good, but from model, yisshh. I got to go sleep now.

ooooh a subject i can relate to!

the most ive ever gone without sleep was about 5-6 days maybe more.... i cant remeber after the 4th day it was all pretty much a blur, drank lots of coffee, was having fun you know... didnt really notice any affects till the third day which was uhm yeah you notice things you dont normally like there are numbers on ciggerettes... at least there are here, and its pretty much like your sleep walking, nothing matters unless your focusing on that,

but that was a long time ago, now i cant go a day or so without sleep or i get really sick, throwing up, i get the everythings moving things i did last night hehe stayed up ooooh 4 hours more than usual and sounds make you go and check so you cant sleep and its annoying.

oh yeah, once i came home after moving out with like a few days without sleep and i couldnt sleep so i asked my dad to help. he game me valium telling me they were sleeping pills so i took them like every night for a few weeks hehehe luckily im not very dependant so i got off them when i found out what they were, but i dont recomend them

oh yeah, if you wanna sleep, dont eat bananas 7 hours before you sleep, they are bad... and nothing spicy, coffee doesnt really matter unless your a wimp cause i drink it all the time before bed.

*hugs fausty* sorry your work is making you not sleepies

5 days without "assistance"? not bad. Best I ever did was 3 and that was bad enough. It's really quite hard for me to do, I'm one of those over active types who sweats while relaxed and in the freezing cold (ie. some "bad wiring" seems to be making various parts run too hot).
I always know when it's time to sleep because my periferal vision winds back to almost nothing, I don't see or am slow to react to anything that's not right in front of me. Then patterns start swamping my vision; if there's a carpet I'm looking at or even bands of light or the leaves of a tree (anything slightly regular) the pattern will repeat itself until it's the only thing i can see. I don't think this is really a halucination; anyone can do it themselves if they stare at something long enough, not good when it comes by itself though.
So yeah; I've never really had major sleep deprivation. My sleep is a mess though; if I don't have any regimented hours to keep I fall into a 26hr pattern; at least 16hrs up and up to 10hrs down. It's kindof amusing, since it's longer than the actual day it slowly moves around the clock.
(I really should get out of this forum though. It's obviously filled with total freaks :P )
