One of my best friends is really into rather diverse comics. She is very sensitive and likes expressive, experimental stuff. As I am abroad for half a year I wanna give her a special birthday present...

Can anybody recommend me a comic artists or books, that are special in this way?
would be nice...

The Watchmen (Alan Moore) remains my fave, and it's definitely "out there" in its presentation and story. Classic.

A couple I've been into for a bit more recently are Paradigm and Strangers in Paradise... and who couldn't love Bone?
