This is basically new old art. I just made some modifications to individual elements I made a while back and assembled them in a new way. I don't typically go for the "trendwhore" look, but this is sort of my take on it as well as a small poke.

If you like these, I uploaded some zip files with dark and light wallpapers as well as a screensaver. Comments and critiques are very appreciated!

Because I've had quite a few people who did not pick up on the meaning of the image, I'll explain what was going through my head when I created it.

My first inspiration was a t-shirt that said "I hate graphic design". Granted, it was just meant to be semi-ironic, but I took it as a little more. I started thinking about trends that seem to be common in the online art and design communities. There seem to be a large number of people trying to pass trendy design off as abstract art. Personally, I don't buy it. So, after some thought, I realized that I had some things laying around that would help illustrate my point. The first thing that came to mind was a 3d model I was almost finished with. I thought leaving the face unfinished would help represent the generic nature of most of these unartistic designs that seem so popular. Also, I had used the "cross" behind him as a point of reference to get his height and arm length correct. I wanted to leave it since it resembled a stand and in made the model look more mannequin-like, again playing on the thoughtless, generic theme. Then, I decided to use part of an Illustrator/Photoshop piece I created a while back for a different purpose as the background. The reason being was that it was a giant eye. As long as the generic creation keeps the giant eye's attention, it must be good. After all, these generic trendy designs are what seem to be so popular, not the precisely planned images that tell a story or convey a feeling or thought. As far as the effect going on in the upper Left, it's simply to help tie this image to it's filter heavy counterparts. Hopefully the name, "Without Reason" is now self-explanatory. Anyway, whether you cared or not, now you know where I was coming from with this piece.

not that anyone here is replying anyway, but...

Because so many people have attached a religious meaning to the stand behind the model, I made a version without it. I also added some color just because I felt like it. Smile

Well, I like the color and composition especially with the colored one, and I think you've definately achieved what you were setting out to say. I too am frustrated by people and their abstract photoshop filter use to create a flood of mindless non art that seems so common today. While I have taken part in debates on what exactly defines art, I'll always defend my position on the subject. Anyway, I appreciate that someone at least feels the same way I do.
