Hey,
I've been making art with vector based programs for a while now (mainly flash) but now I want to start on something a bit more original, and with texture. So I got Photoshop 7.0.. Unfortunately, I'm totally lost with it. With Flash I became quite good and adept with it because of tutorials.. But I can't seem to find any decent tutorials based on Photoshop 7. Can anybody point me out to some, or even better, give a n00b some tips?
Cheers,

14k, a simple search on Google; "Photoshop tutorials", will return hundreds of thousands of pages.
Can you be more specific in what you are trying to do with Pshop? |

You should concentrate on tutorials that heavily focus on aspects of alpha channels feature of Photoshop. There are some very old, but very good tutorials at phong.com. The best and most realistic textures I have ever created were made through the following method:
1)Create a new document and then create a new blank layer that is not locked, because a channel is linked to a layer and inherites the limitations of that layer.
2)Create a new black channel.
3)Filter-fest with Photoshop's filters. Experiment and take your time. If you rush this you will learn nothing. The goal of this step is to learn what you can do and how you go about doing it for future reference. This will take a bit of practice before you learn to create texture maps on the fly that realisticly make what you need.
4)When you finally create something you like or something you can use log some notes in a text file (or write them down), so that you will remember for the future.
5)Learn painterly color theory and the digital color blending that Photoshop allows with its layer modes. This step is vital when you are ready to layer texture maps for a more finished look.
6)Study the textures that exist in reality around you. Textures will be more realistic if you make them based upon how you make them to look based upon what you know. _________________ http://prettydiff.com/ |
