I recently completed work on the opening and closing titles for Disney's George of the Jungle 2 and thought i would post a few piccies. I'm in the process of updating my site (like any dynamic site i haven't touched it in yonks!) so i'll just post a few images and links below.

I'm not sure how much interest most of you have in animation, but i reckon it's a fun and viable outlet for digital painting (ie. backgrounds) and conceptual designs (ie. character model sheets & layouts).

The great thing about animation is it is such a collaborative artform, so it wouldn't be right not to mention a few of my talented colleagues. Throughout the whole project I worked with the Head of Animation, Ian Anderson and we designed all aspects of the titles together. He's a very creative guy and an amazing "drawer". In terms of the backgrounds, I worked with a Kurtis Richmond, who's an established motion graphics designer, but he had to learn digital painting fast for this job and did really well.

Anyway, here's a few bits and pieces from the job:)

final George design

final Ursula design

model & colour guide

paint guide

scene flowchart (i designed it so we could keep things consistent in regards to how each scene/action/background would relate to one another)

a storyboard page, as drawn by the Ian (we did about 6 versions in total, which got pretty tiresome)

the colour script (this was the first version i did a warmer palette, which we preferred, before Disney decided to cool things down with more mundane blue skies

a couple of the great layouts done by Ian and his team

Sc1b layout

Sc15 layout

soem styleframes (i did these for each scene, so Disney could sign off on the look of them before animation)

some final production stills

Sc1

Sc4

Sc7

Sc14

Sc16

Sc27

Sc33

Sc35

closing titles

Hope you enjoyed and thanks for viewing:)

This is great visual myriad.
This sort of thing really inspires me, and gives me the urge to draw.

I have to ask. Howcome that Disney allows you to post these things? I would have thought they'd keep their cards close. -although it is finished.

Not that I'm complaining. I'm hoping to se more of the sort at some time Smile

Classy work. I actually much prefer all your concept art than the final animation frames too.

Hey man. I have not seen this side of your work yet. I guess all that time at the drawing board has rubbed off. Great stuff.

thanx to fiend, max k, sumaleth, aliasmoze, lc3, and basement bound (how are you mate?) for the lovely comments. Michael: i was asked by the marketing manager to prepare some images for articles and such, so we had all this stuff approved.

will be adding more styleframes and such to my website when i update it over the next few weeks (just trying to find some damn time).

Thanks again to all for the comments:)
