I had updated a blog with this image a couple of days ago. Just thought I'd share the image. Thanks.

Welcome to Sijun. :)

Looks pretty cool there, I especially like that beige stroke you have added on top of the picture.
Maybe you could have added more clean lines on the girl but thats just a matter of taste.

Keep it up
Matthew

Thanks for vieiwing. It was one of those drawings that came without a plan. I know what you mean about the clean lines, I get impatient and decide too soon that an image is done. Although I've gone the other way and not know when to stop and the drawing dies in my hands as I work it.

More and more I am making an effort to have a more relaxed style--line drawings or paintings. I say it's a style but it really could be old fashioned laziness.

Cheers.

R.

Welcome, welcome, Mr. Del Carmen. With your presence, the forum has just taken a step up. I look forward to more posts.

Oh, this picture is cool. Reminds me of an old movie title sequence. The copyright notice is the only thing that gets in the way. I actually knew it was one of yours at first glance Smile I used to be in animation and hear you're at Pixar now (?).

Thanks, AliasMoze. Happy to be recognized. Your board can boast of substantial illustration and design people and I'm just dropping in being part of the stream. And you're right, this does remind me of the old monochrome, solarized title sequences of old movies, 60's like and with a big jazz band blaring in the track. I put the copyright there maybe as an attempt to show how ridiculous the internet is with art theft and how some of us have decided to back away from it all.

My work isn't a target because it doesn't have that emblematic aspect to it. But there are some who've been ripped off and blatantly hawked as someone else'--always a no-talent just starting their career--and doing the assinine thing right off.

I'm at Pixar now, been here three years. It's a good gig. I always liken us animation people as "apple pickers." We go where the apples are. In this case it is more appropriate given that Steve Jobs owns the place.

You're welcome.

You know, I like looser lines. Artists really seem to go through the pattern of simplification over the years, and I think indeed there is something paradoxically both simpler and more accurate about rough drawings. It's a shame that the medium of traditional animation, nor any that I can think of, leave much room for rougher work. This kind of stuff I love.

Ronnie welcome, looking forward to seeing more of your stuff here. I am ashamed to say that I when i saw your post it seemed 'famiular', but after looking at your site and full name I remember seeing your stuff at the drawing board and your name in "the art of finding Nemo". I hope you stick around.

Wow, I just checked out the gallery on your site. You capture the sexyness of that sort of 50's/60's style incredibly. I love it!

Thanks again for the welcome. Glad to be here.

Alias--I agree, the old Dalmations movie, Jungle Book and, ahem, Aristocats, were great examples of how lively the rough clean-up line can be. It can, however be abused. In the case of the short produced in Disney, John Henry, the rough lines and construction lines tended to be distracting and overly stressed as a style. Like most stylistic turns, knowing when to apply it and in what measures spell the difference between a statement or an affectation. All due respect to all involved, it was the latter for John Henry.

Basement--Thanks for remembering. I'm not very savvy with all the communities that abound the net. I know of Sinjun from membership the board has in common with Shane's site. I remember also how Sinjun had been subject to hecklers who make it their job--and indeed derive such glee it seems--of fomenting dissent and create a poisoned environment amongst the membership, leaving the community destroyed. Glad that both boards have members who's integrity and leadership shone thru.

Fukifino--Thanks for visiting the site. I've been really behind in updating the site and I hope to create more work to put up. A revamp actually. Glad you mentioned the style. I'm enamored of the graphics and fashion of the 60's. Tadahiro Uesugi is an inspiration of late. Others were Bernie Fuchs, Gruau, Dave Grove, Barron Storey...it goes on.

Beat--Glad you liked the gallery. The watercolors were sketchbook entries. I carry a tiny plastic brush that has its own water reservoir to use with cake watercolors in a small case. I've no time and when I find myself sitting anywhere and have the notion to draw or paint I make sure I can make use of the time. I hope to do more. I'm making pastels lately and I hope to have some of those up on the board soon.

Thank you

R.
