Hi
Im studing in the university of Lapland in Finland and im about to do my univercity degree research about "Using Internet in graphic design". If Ill have enough material I will write a book based on my study. Im observing basically art forums (about design and illustrations), working via internet and freeware fonts & brushes etc. My main goal is to research how this industry has changed when everythign has changed to digital form and what kind of effect it has had to media and popular culture.
Can I please have a little your time and ask you to answer these questions? I have send this kind of question form to many designers and illustrators around the globe. Some of these questions might seem to be obvious but I have send this same question form to every place so be patient.
* Your name?
* Are you studying or working? Where?
* Have you worked in profession before digitall revolution? Which things has changed the most? Which is better/worst than before?
* How you benefit internet in your design/illustrations/work?
* What have you learnt via internet?
* Have you worked via internet? Have you had any problems?
* Which artists are influenced you the most? Have you had foreign influences via internet (links)?
* Is your style/technigue local or global? How so?
* Do you know any books handling this subject?
* Is it possible to make longer indivitual interwiev?
I hope you have time to answer these questions, thank you already.

Alright, alright.... see normally we tend to get a bit lazy about answering these sort of things, but I'll start.
Your name?
Ian Jones
Are you studying or working? Where?
Studying. Bachelor of Multimedia Design. Brisbane, Australia.
Have you worked in profession before digitall revolution? Which things has changed the most? Which is better/worst than before?
No, I'm still a student.
How you benefit internet in your design/illustrations/work?
The internet has really opened my eyes to so many great artists and good work. I am able to easily and quickly access and interact with other artists from all over the world. I am able to see the best work around and get inspiration from many and varied sources. The internet also lets me show my own work to the world, get feedback, interact with other artists and also get exposure.
What have you learnt via internet?
A huge amount of stuff. I have spent many hours browsing websites, interacting on forums, reading articles, tutorials etc... I have learnt such a huge amount from other artists not only from tutorials but also from actually seeing good work I have been able to learn a lot about aesthetics. The internet allows a unique self learning environment.
Have you worked via internet? Have you had any problems?
Yes. I have worked for local clients via the internet, web design specifically. Communication via emails, file uploads and other interactions. Communcation can be a problem due to differences in technical knowledge and understanding between client and designer, but this doesn't seem to be much different than traditional communication problems.
Which artists are influenced you the most? Have you had foreign influences via internet (links)? Artists from all over the world influence me. A few I can pull off the top of my head are:
www.chapter3.net
www.idiocase.com
www.onyro.com
www.gmunk.com
www.webagent007.com
www.goodbrush.com
Is your style/technigue local or global? How so?
Global. Due to all the heavy influences on my designs by artists all over the world. Internet 'culture' and 'style' which I have learnt and 'grown up' with is my staple diet.
Do you know any books handling this subject?
Not really.
Is it possible to make longer indivitual interwiev?
Maybe. |
