Hey everyone-

I'm a huge fan of smaller movies that get overlooked, especially indie or foreign sci-fi. For example, very few people knew about "Cube" before it became a cult classic.

Anyone else have any favorites that fall in this catagory? I'm not talking about anything out of mainstream Hollywood, just the small stuff not many people have seen.

Here's a few of my favs to get the ball rolling...

Existenz
Avalon
Cube
Equilibrium
Delicatessen
Donny Darko
Closet Land

Cube 2 blew chunks, BTW. Wink

Six-String Samurai
Ichi the Killer
Shaolin Soccer
Shockwaves
Yojimbo

Yeah, yojimbo is by kurosawa, and everyone knows kurosawa, but few people actually know anything about his work outside of Ran. so there.

some asian stuff

if you are looking for some good horror movies and stuff like Scream bores you i suggest:

Dark Water

and not so good but still were fun at times:

The Eye
Versus

And the last one Not a horror movie but still entertaining: Better Luck Tommorow. IF someone could post names of some classic sci-fi asian movies i would be happy.

I watched a little bit of Stalker.. it was kinda weird hehe, but moody.
They are making a game S.T.A.L.K.E.R. based on the movie, and it looks real good.

Hmmm..

You guys mentioned Stalker, yeah that was a great one.

Anyone hear the rumor that it was almost completely reshot because they used an experimental Kodak stock that couldn't be developed? The rumor has it that it had to be re-done on a shoestring budget. It's one of the great "lost film" legends.

Wish I could get that sucker on DVD.

After being in hiding for the past while, I was finally able to get internet at my house since my move across to the opposite side of the country.

But anyhoo, my 2 cents:

Shaolin Soccer (As Impaler brought up), I just saw this movie recently when my room mate downstairs brought it out of nowhere. I must say, its a hilarious movie in an asian sense (me being asian), and I wish more american movies would just produce slap-stick humour movies like this. Well, I guess they create tons of it, but whenever I see a Japanese movie, it's just so different. Take TV shows in Japan, they're mostly variety shows where they have guests (sorta like hollywood squares), but they do more productive stuff, more physical stuff thats more interesting to watch, wrather than people sitting in boxes answering questions....

whoops....got carried away...

go see it if you can, its funny if you like soccer, if you like action (kung-fu), and puts a funny side to Matrix scenes.

If you liked Dark Water I'd also like to recommend Kiyoshi Kurosawa's Pulse (Kairo).

One other great movie I watched a little while ago was The Holy Mountain (la montagna sacra).
