First, second & third time unlucky. That about says it all. I 've tried 3 times and can't do this scene.
Well. I should be shot for my stupidity in using the same guy from the first 2 attempts in 3rd attempt, when I can't be sure that he's not to blame. But.. [gestures, needs a slap]
I know you can offer something, not least a description of what flaws your fresh eyes see. (I felt an overwhelming desire to use the lens-flare in the third because everyone hates it so much, I beg forgiveness.)
first attempt (a few months ago):
second (couple days after first)
third (just now)
I feel at least that I can see some improvement. Those first two must have taken me about 4 times the time of the most recent one that I am least unhappy with. |

I don't really see anything "wrong" with any of them... What are you hoping to achieve with this? What is it you think you're failing at? |

I guess it's a good thing that you can't see anything to badly wrong.
I guess I feel the pose of the kneeling guy in the most recent one is just not right, it's a little awkward. If you don't think so then that's good : D
I will add more detail in terms of objects in the scene.
I think Im not keen on his clothes and appearance. not sure what to do with him tho..
I want him to appear as a story teller from a far (or as near to that as possible). maybe he needs more junk around him.
Maybe less is wrong with it than I thought .. tired eyes. I'll go on with it and see if I start liking it anymore. |

Thanks tomasis.
This is about as far as I'm gonna go. There's some inherrent qualtiy about the pic which I don't like, it's not going anywhere special. could be comp or content.. anyway. was fun. call it 'finished'. comments?

How'd you get that stone to glow like that?
I can't understand how some people can do that simply by using the right colors... It's amazing. |

Ahh the lens flare.. yes.
Some childish rebellion overcame me and forced me to use that most hated tool
Xen:
yeah.. well. The first two were essentially the same attempt, thought not quite. So then this most recent one.. I guess I just did it becuase I felt the original idea I had in my mind had some potential. I thought I might get it right this time, and I did get closer. Now I am at the point of laying it to rest and moving on, like you said.
Though it might be an interesting exercise to come back to it next year and do it again, why not? By painting the same content/scene/thought, I could see how I am improving/changing. |
