Post images with topics from the list here.
What's the point?
From the original thread:
Quote:
You draw 500 fast practise paintings.
Concentration more on form & value than level of detail or finished look.
Anyone else interested is of course welcome aboard, doing this in group will probably help anyone with lack of motivation.
So ... force yourself out of your comfort zone! Smile

You'll find the list here:
500 List? - Thread

#1 - Keys on table

#2 - Glass of water

#3 - Flag of your nation

#4 - Old books, candle and skull

Are these imperatively obsverational drawings or is referenceless paiting acceptable?

Probably be more educational, esp. for begginers like myslef to use reference.
Hmm.. yeah. I haven't the motivtion.

Matthew: Did you see my reply in the other thread? You still want 1000 topics? It's your turn Wink !
I can't wait for your images!

Capt. Fred: It's acceptable, sure!
Btw ... even if you are only motivated for 3 paintings ... you can still quit later!

#5 - Paint a still life with three or fewer objects

#6 - Paint something you see everyday

#7 - Frozen Zeppelin

I think if were to do anything like this I'd set the challenege/goal as 100 observational paintings.

I'm gonna try do that. Make 100 observational paitings starting in the summer holidays, 20-40 minutes each one. yeah.
Becuase I think I learn quite allot about colour/tone/shape/line, y'know all that, when I do from life.

Then I'm sure any creative, non-reference, out-of-my head pics would imrpove significantly. I would have to vary the subject matter of the life pics as much as possible tho.

Yeah, just thinking out loud really, thanks for the ideas andy.

What do you mean "I suppose"? Of course it's a good way to get better. Please fill me in on the other method(s) of improving your skills without practice.

This has been done at Sijun many moons ago. I remember Gecko and Janne's contributions well - look at them now.

Ok I have decided to enter this thread too instead of the speedys, but the thing I have to concentrate on right now is pictures that are more rendered so mine will be more focused on detail and the more of the rendered kind. All of them will be made from reference thou I will change some things sometimes in them.
I will consider them as observational sketches and I am gonna do them Chronological from the list, I hope I will reach 500.

Thank you AndyT for doing this thread.
Ok let us push eachother now for reaching the 500 and after that we will be Spooge Demons everyone of us. :)

1. Mountain Goat

Keep it up

I mean seriously, if there is any other way to get better, than ill be a monkey's biological uncle. I mean seriously. I dont think there is any way that hwslut can back sass this opinion." happy now?

Well, your age shines through in your post, and I now realize I'm dealing with a child. Quite obviously you aren't able to converse with any level of maturity whatsoever, but I'll try once more.

Other than by practicing, how do you improve? Osmosis? Maybe you have some kind of super-power that allows you to suck the talent from other artists and apply it to your own work?

Matthew: *GREAT* job. By far, the best I've seen from you. I think that with your motivation/passion towards improving, that this project will result in HUGE leaps forward in your art.

geez. I think it shows who is the more mature one here. If i were you, i would put an end to this argument right now before ur completely wiped out by da master. me Cool . And i did agree with you in the last post, i dont know why ur even continuing to insult me. sometimes u just need to let things go.

and there are some of us out there with a sense of humor, my friend. Did it ever even graze you that i might have been joking when i said "i suppose"

hmm?? Did it??

I dont even know why im wasting my time with this. Im gonna startt on this 500 thing. It sounds pretty fun. Heh, i hope my computer can handle 500 pics tho Laughing ah, i think it can.

#9 - Strippers

Matthew: Wow that is amazing! You and CwStone make me look bad Mad !
Btw I'm not choosing the topic I want to draw either. I have a list that I go through.
Yeah let us push each other! I just want to get to a point where some images turn out the way I want them to.
Hope that's possible ... given time.

Capt. Fred: It seems as if you want to avoid working from photos.
But I think that can be a good exercise too sometimes when done correctly.
Or don't you mean drawing from life only when you say observational?
Anyways ... I'm looking forward to seeing images by you!

CwStone: It's amazing! No crits!
There's no city scape btw. I'm sure you meant "City In The Distance" Wink

Nice one Matthew!

hwslut: The way you improve isn't by practice, it's by understanding new concepts and applying them to your work. Practice just happens to help you do that, but I've seen people improve just by looking at other people's drawings and getting things in their heads... Which would be a form of osmosis.

CwStone: That title is on the list at least hehe.
Thanks! Painting that image took some time!
Paaarty!!!! It's finished now! Smile

Critical Pete: I'd agree if you had written
"The way you improve isn't just by practice"
You still need to practice applying what you learned in theory IMHO.

#10 - Soldier With An Umbrella

wayfinder - yeah spooge warned about the use of picture ref but I am gonna try to use the reference pictures wisely. Thats the picture I used yeah.

Thanks for the kind comments there people I really appreciate them, thank you all. :)

ok lets continue the search for the holy grail, the second one was easy but the third one was really tricky and made from an old bad photo from 1906 and it shows some earth quake during that time when a building collapsed. the ref was the same size and mine is also painted in the same size as the ref.

2. Solar Eclipse

3. Partly Collapsed Building

see you and keep up the good work everyone

(is it props or probs i hear people saying it and i say it too and u just cant tell if its a "p" or a "b" at the end) Anyway good job!

lately iv been too much opsessed with improving my painting and i forgot what is it all about - painting is fun. So instead of searching for references and asking my self 100 questions i just tried to put one simple idea in each painting and don't concentrate too much on every aspect of it. They might be boring and crappy but i like how making them made me feal so i will probably do more.

btw good job every one. I especialy respect andy for fighting with his mouse (you still don't have tablet, right ?)

Matthew: Great work with the values in the Partly Collapsed Building image.

Probustion: Amazing! Keep it up please! Smile

oDD: I have a tablet ... most of the still lifes were done (no wait ... only started) in Painter Classic with it.
Still don't know how to make textures! Not at all!
Sometimes the pointer jumps around even if I hold the pen still. Then I use the mouse in Painter Classic.
It's pretty obvious which images were done in the Gimp with a mouse.
In the Gimp the tablet doesn't work Sad . The tablet is a Volito btw.
I do about 80% with the mouse.

It's good to see your images here! Even better that it seems to be fun for you!
Nice lines in the image with the mountain goat. Was that an experiment?
Did you work on the "boring covers" some more?

Entirely Gimp/mouse:

#11 - Overflowing Fountain On A Stone Floor

Believe me ... it's on a stone floor!

#12 - Space Ship Beaming Up A Moose At Night

#13 - Empty Corner

Entirely Painter/Volito crap:

#14 - Waterfall

based on this oekaki thingie:

Again mouse & Gimp (the fastest yet I think):

#15 - Prymids (I Can't Spell)
I think it's supposed to mean: Pyramids!?

Mouse/Gimp but it took longer ...

#16 - Cubes, Spheres, Cylinders, Cones

Mouse/Gimp fast:
#17 - Trailer(s) Carrying Logs Of Wood

CwStone - thank you. :)

AndyT - thank you. :)

I am also kind of low with web-space, think I have 7MB left or something, hmm maybe have to drop off the old stuff.
I have noticed ref will be hard to use for some of the stuff but we will see what will happen.
The trees I made was kind of demanding and I called it a day on them thou I am not satisfied with the trees.

Edit / I forgot, that Fountain rocks AndyT, beautiful. :)

4. Rocks

5. Trees

see you and keep up the good work guys. :)
