In my opinion, you have to define the main-shapes in the picture, like the outlines etc, if you like to put more details into it.

Sure, it lost a part of his easy "flow",
but i think, if you would seperate the parts of your drawing better,
details wouldnt confuse the viewer too much... urhm, damn, my english is as bad as it could be...
here, i print it and did a little "re-ink" to show:

thanks, and don't worry, i don't mind. i see what you mean... i think i still prefer mine better. though now that i've seen a version with more detail, i can see areas where i can add some.
