10 - 15 minute sketch. I know it's not much for that ammount of time, but I am trying to work on my speed. any suggestions on speed painting? (not really judging off of this one in particular) _________________

here is another one i did just now... not that anyone cares
i still get too carried away and just draw for longer than i want to... this one took 20 mins of straight drawing. i want them to take 5 - 10.. but that comes with the expense of detail..... right? _________________

I have no idea how to increase speed (wish I did). I like that first one. Seems pretty good for a 10-15 minute sketch. Looks solid, interesting line weight, etc.. Not as fond of the second one...mainly just wierd anatomy that doesn't sit well with me.
Anyways, didn't want you to think you were talking to yourself. Hopefully someone else will respond with more usefull info. |

here is my friend dirtbiking, this image took about 2 hours of efficient drawing, there was a refrence used (a photo i took) but the line and color are mine. i ended up giving him a large print of this that is now framed in his home

Thinking colour is imho the hardest.
I seldom pick colours from a colour scheme when painting from a reference,
I sampel colours... Why?
Cause it saves time, and its the better way for me personally to learn the choice of colour.
If I want to use the knowledge I might get from my reference practice,
I paint something from my mind without using any reference.
That is my way to see if I can get everything right.
Shapes, colours, everything I might have learned down on paper.
Looking at a reference and picking your own colour is better and more true.
But, we all have our ways.
Do not value time!
It only annoys one that some people can do surten things faster then you.
It will come to you too, sooner or later.
speedpaint more.
paint more.
Thats my two cents!
edited: In some of my posts I describe how long it took me to paint a, surten piece of art. Thats my way to see if anyone can tell me if im doing good or bad concerning the amout of time i put down on a image.
15 minutes on the picture at the top, well done
cause: shapes seems right, shading seems to be on its way to be fullfilled
20 minutes on the second one, less good
cause: the line work doesnt match a shading shown to us.
But the textures and colour scheme is very nice.
Its generally a good concept idea, and such always takes time to compute
2 hours on the third pic: well done
cause: Shapes are there, and hand picked colours are down on paper.
Practicing from reference (especially when picking colours from a scheme),
can definitely take alot of time. _________________ Fru Tina Kttet |

thanks a lot for telling me, no one ever does. I was starting to wonder.
drawing is one of those that you know as soon as your begin whether or not your image will be a good one or not.. in my case, i need to free my mind more when picking colors.. i am totally self taught and don't really know what's good or bad until someone tells me. so thanks for the input. i will be putting more in here soon.. BTW i love your images i look at them all the time. wish i had your skills.. maybe someday i will be at your level. until then, leave me some jobs out there. _________________
