Yeah, it's me again. I have a lot of questions don't I?
Well this is an easier one.
Does anyone know how to, or have a tutorial, on how to draw chainmail? I'm not talking close-up, but a little farther away shot kinda chainmail... I'm probably going to be drawing it soon (fantasy art, ninja... that sorta stuff) but I really have no idea where to start! |

I asked that question here not too long ago as well. Never did get an answer myself. I am still experimenting. |

Here's one method. Create a b&w picture that is a ring with the shading on it, so that it is not all black, but has highlights too, and have it be on a white background. Then define this as a custom brush and draw in dark grey over light grey. Fill in the area and see how it looks. If you do it right and tweak it a bit it will look ok. _________________ It has been clinically proven that other people's pain IS funny. |

Check out EyeWoo's bitch'n technique/tutorial on rendering a knitted sweater, here:
http://eyewoo.com/show2/tut_02/
I've sampled photos then tweaked and twisted and filtered the results until they match fairly closely the texture and contrast of my pic, then paint over the results as needed. If you wanna paint every ring- you'll have to do just that; often intimating detail can be more effective than actually rendering it, though. Checkout how others have tackled this problem- from folks like the Brothers Hildebrant to mid-evil paintings AND sculpture and the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood.
Let us see the results! _________________ MonekyBoy

Thanks everyone!
I'll show you the results when I ever get to them... I'm the slowest artist out there I swear...
And I know that anime/manga style is hated around here so I'll probably only post questions... Sorry guys! ^_^;; |
