I made this one for that 'tree' thread. The thing is that this is probably the second picture I ever painted, all I ever did was Lineart. I'm sure this pic is full of mistakes, and turns your stomache, but I would like to hear some good advice from everybody who can help me progress, and get good at this. The only detail I was able to add was the grass on the roots, and it ain't even all that clear. It's a big mess, no detail, I just don't know how. Also the lightning is wrong, I noticed I have to think in '3D" shapes, according to an artist? I think that might help me idd.
Every help is appreciated, and if you just want to bash it, bash it !

I'm not an expert myself. There is a program called OpenCanvas where you can play 'event' files, in which you can see how the drawing is made, i.e. every line that is drawn is being recorded and stored into this event file. You can download a trial version of OpenCanvas from http://www.portalgraphics.net. You can also download may event files from that same site. Mostly manga though.

your second digital painting ever ? My 15th digital try-out was not half what you post here. From real Media to the digital media was a weird step and you seem to have the flexibility to adapt very quickly !
Do you tend to think in terms of ligthing and volumes ? Or rather graphic oriented ? Like Spooge Demon, he is the God of volumes and light interaction, and more recently he's keen about graphic approaches. Or rather like Hardcore Pix, the god of grafix stylee. Try to explain what direction you are aiming for. _________________ If there is no God, who pops up the next kleenex in the box? |

Well, I made a solid base first, and then noticed on all the paintings around here that they create wonderful pics not by drawing everything, but suggesting it with light sources. I tried that out, since I'm terrible at adding actual detail, which is what I want to get good at Seeing Spooge's pics on his site makes me dream I'm not quite clear as what you mean with graphic/volumes&light, could you explain ?
This is an update btw
