Hi,
using the blur tool in PS with strength at 100% does not do the job as well as opencanvas or painter. Is this a normal limitation or is there another way to do the job. (not with the selectiontools/filters)

regards

You said not with selection/filters, but sadly this is what you are going to need to do:

1) Create a new channel
2) Create a selection in the exact area you want to blur
3) Blur this selection or use smudge tool to create a blurred area.
4) Load selection
5) Use a low level gaussian blur
6) Problem solved in less time than using merely your tool pallete with a higher level accuracy

Filter-festing is not art by itself, but it sure pays to know how to use Photoshop.

Thanks for the replies, but i meant the blur tool to draw (or blur in this case) with my wacom pen. And so, without having to make selections first, thus strait from the pen.

Well, I dont know if this will work for you or not but you can try the Smudge tool with spacing UNCHECKED (no spacing) and using your mouse/pen draw in small circles, it will still want to smudge but drawing in small circles will minimize any smudging and blur the hell out of the subject. It can be done and it will work, it did with me..
