I tried drawing again (bigger and with harder pencils).
Just thought I should ask if this is the right direction ...

Hey Andy I am glad that you are back into the drawing again.
Looking good there with the shading, especially the hand.
Keep going :)

Thanks for your reply.
Yes people seem to like the hand most.
I forgot to add the master copies:

Looks pretty good Andy!
The mastercopies are great. It's a good idea to copy KChen's stuff.
Keep it up |

Yes, you are certainly heading in the right direction. The reason the hand looks the best may be because you don't have any preconcieved notion of how it should look, and therefore you just draw what you see instead of what you "know".
In the portrait, which is pretty good over all, in a few areas you seem to be drawing what your mind thinks should be there. The lips have an unrealistic outline around them. Try a lighter line next time, so that when you shade them your shading will cover up any construction lines. I see similar problems with the eyes, nose, and jawline.
These do look larger than before, so thank you for actually drawing large! I hope that it's already forcing you to loosen up a bit. I think the above drawings are things that everyone's sketchbooks are full of (meaning, you are on the right path). Keep it up! |

Ok thanks. I'll go on like that then.

That is weird for me though.
I agree that there are lines in the self portrait that shouldn't be there.
That was why I decided to do parts of the face instead.
Drawing the whole face took too long (until I couldn't concentrate).
But I thought the parts were ok. Mostly planes and "lines" only where I actually saw them.
Have to look more carefully I guess.
Thanks again. _________________ http://www.conceptworld.org |
