These are some concepts for a space game. The ships should look like they are made by a technologic advanced human group.
Comments and critics welcome. I still need to get a lot better - so I hope for some tips how to improve.

nice renders - the top ship is my favourite, and the most classic. good stuff.
reminds me of Lord Vader's ship on the back view, and that's not a bad thing. |

Lovely.
Perhaps they would be more interesting if you added even more contrasting colors? I don't know, just speculation on my part |

Nice stuff, though It looks like your perspective is off at some points. Especially at the battleship.
Otherwise, great work!

My friend said that from accross the room the middle ship looks like a technical drawing of...well...certain female anatomy.
Hehe...beyond that I like the designs, but there are tons of technical issues bugging me. The engines on all the ships seem to be modelled after conventional jets with air intakes...but uh...no air in space. And the middle ships propulsion seems to be at the bottom, which would just make it go in circles. Also, the rear engines of the top ship seem to have turbine fans but they're not fully circular.
Of course, this observations are all pretty stupid. It's a game, and this is the future..who knows what technology they're really using. But as I said..those things just bugged me when I saw them. Still really neat designs though. |

I hate to give negative critique, but as an avid designer of space/scifi concepts, I feel compelled to give my honest opinion. *deep breath* here goes...
1st fighter: the top half of the craft has plenty of potential- I like the organic, somewhat gothic-arch/flying buttress like lines, and I really wish you'd carried soe of this theme into the bottom half of the design. Instead, you appear to have included some jagged gill-like structures on a flat bottom, breaking with the predominant theme from above in a jarring, inharmonious way. Agreeing with Fukifino, the use of turbine-like structures, aside from seeming incongruous with space propulsion, is also reminescent of cheap, cartoony space toys. Overall, though, I'm afraid it's very boring.
2nd fighter: the flat-backed wishbone shape comes across as rather flimsy, and it suggests jewelry more than spacecraft. I'd suggest looking for a way to give this thing a little backbone, maybe some raised circumferential weapon or engine array on the back, anything to keep it from looking like it's fresh off the cookie sheet. Again, you can probably find something more interesting to put on there than turbines. Other than that, it's a fairly interesting concept. I like the rear-entry cockpit, though it looks a litle cramped.
Battleship: this one has serious problems. the angled surfaces seem rather arbitrary and, well, clunky. There's no rhythm in the shape, it just sort of hulks out there. I'm tempted to suggest you scrap it entirely and start fresh, but I'm liking the front and rear views. I'm not sure how you could fix this, but it should probably stary with straightening out that hatchet-like curve on the forward hull, and giving this thing some more small-scale, unifying textures to accentuate its bulk (think of the fine textures in the recessed edges of the star destroyers in star wars, they really make those hulls look geographic in scale.).
Your renderings are really well-executed, very professional presentation. you just need to focus on design elements a little more at this point. |

fukifino: Thanks for the reply. You're right I shouldnt have used turbines for the space ships. I guess I just didn't know how to paint believable engines, that look good. Wont do that error again.
About that femal anatomy thingy ... OMG
M. C. Barrett: Thanks for your substantial reply - it really helps me a lot. These are my first spaceship designs, so I hope that I will get better over time
Your comments about the battle ship are right - I think I will scrap this thing and do it again. I kind of like the overall shape - just the details and execution don't work. I'll post the new version here when I find the time. _________________ www.oxpal.com |

Hmm, just wanted to say that In my opinion the Battle ship is very cool...Dont scrape it.
My favourite is the middle ship, now I know why But I think that is should not be so flat in the depth dimension...
I think you should make it as deep as the perspective view. |
