This here be my first post on the board and I wanted to make sure it was an illustration that I was currently working on so here it is.
This is my entry to my university's library contest. Its an annual thing, and there is prize money. there can be several themes for it, but in general, it just has to promote libraries. The theme I chose to come up with is Sharing information. Right now this is at the color sketch stage. So I didn't really bother to go all out into full detail. Plus I feel I am sort of running into a road block of sorts trying to find out what to do next. Besides Based on comments and suggestions i'll end up redoing the original drawing and repainting everything.
Here it is, comments and suggestions are greatly appreciated!

I like the style but you should work on the facial expressions. Nice colors too... |

Yes i got that, but what is the concept you are goning to use to send that mensagge? for a person to read a book showing the actual accion it is not as intersting as just insinuateing the idea, in this case reading.
I have made some posters for that same idea of inviting a persons to read:
maybe they will get you inspired, maybe not =)
this poster it was made for my home contry so the text is is on spanish
but the inner concept it is a frase that goes somenting like
"make your road by reading"
(the big red word is the word for reading on spanish)
http://mywebpage.netscape.com/maxetormer/maleta2.jpg
so i made a kid runing with a suitcase that was mixed with a book,
a friend of mine for this same university asigment made a lamp-book and the statement was, "light up your ideas", and so on =)
i hope this helps good luck on your contest ![Very Happy](images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif) _________________ Never underestimate the stupidity of the human race.Sorrow is the contrast of happines then sorrow is some how the esence of happiness + = ![Smile](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

I see what you are saying but my piece is not about reading. Its about sharing information. I am showing this concept by illustrating the action of people interacting and sharing information in a library. I don't think that these 2 characters are reading, they are interacting with each other. Gearing myself more towards the social aspect of a library if you will. You are right when you say that showing somebody reading isn't as interesting as showing the idea or insinuating it. But yes I agree that alot of times, being literal about an idea can be boring.
I would think that to show interaction between people it is a good idea to show that interaction. But I am still open to other ideas, as i'm not limited to just one entry, and the deadline isn't until december. So if you have any ideas about how to show the idea of sharing information through interaction, I'd really appreciate it.
And just to clarify. There isn't a statement or phrase for the contest like you have done. We are to come up with a piece that promotes libraries or on of the many ideas behind libraries. So the contest is pretty open ended in that sense. |
