Hello Sijun members and moderators.

As you may know I often have some ideas about themed threads and different topics and such here in Sijun.
I have been thinking about a thing which should separate Gallery finished and Themed threads from eachother. I think this could be a very cool thing and should also allow different groups to post in their own threads. I am not sure if this is a thing that can be changed to the forum and how much work that it involves but I would like to have one more section to the Sijun forum, a section called Themed Threads.
That would give us, Gallery Finished, Random Musings, Work in Progress, Digital Art Discussion and finally a new thread called Themed Threads.

What do you guys think?

Also moderators let me know in here if this is possible and how much work that is needed and such, I am willing to help out if it takes a lot of work. Assuming anyone likes the idea that is.

Thank you. :)
Matthew

That would be a BIG change. Sijun works well the way it's organized now.

I think one new forum couldn't hurt. There might be a flood of threads though.
I can understand that it might get ugly ...
But I remember that the Gallery was flooded with themed threads.
And I think that was even more annoying.

Creating new forums does not need much work.
The existing themed threads would have to be moved though.
I think the best idea is to let the long time members and moderators decide.

I think it's a good idea.

And I disagree that Sijun works well now. The speed painting thread works well, but that's about it. Everything else is dead. A new section might help stir up some enthusiasm about what is going on.

Hey thank you guys for your comments so far. I hope some mods share their view in here too.
I was also thinking with the Themed thread that some of the popular and cool threads could be sticky in there. The Speed thread could be a sticky and Capt.Flushs Propeller Thread and Post your Progress thread which I found very interesting but disappeared way too fast.

thank you guys, I hope I get some more opinions about this. :)
see you

here are some facts:

1. i already proposed that idea many months ago to sumaleth.

2. sumaleth is a admin of this forum he got power to do anything, so the lack of changes in the forum and no new moderators is intentional.

3. in the past i was against some of his actions but now i can see he is the one that was right.

4. sijun will stay a small, one admin forum

personaly i would like it to evolve but who knows maybe in future we will se the bigger picture Smile Sumaleth you are doing a great job. thanks

In truth, the only admin permissions I have are in dealing with users - which usually means resettings passwords people have forgotten. Other than that I'm really a moderator. I'm basically just trying to keep things running smoothly until Dhabih finishes on HL2 and is able to devote some time to the forums again.

From my point of view: the fewer the number of forums the better.

--

If it was my forum, here's what I'd do.

Firstly I would install or write an "ignore" patch for phpBB2. So every user could selectively ignore the posts of any other user(s).

And secondly, I would completely change the way the Gallery/Finished forum works. I would make it so that *all* threads are themed threads - either by topic (such as "The Propeller Thread), or by style ("Speed Painting"), or by member.

By member? What I mean there is that every user would have their own thread. eg. "Sumaleth". And if I had some art to post I would either add it to one of the themed threads or I would add it to my own personal thread.

I dont pretend to know how well that approach would work, although I do think it could be interesting to try. But that's not my call.

That sounds like a great idea to me, Suma. I just dunno how well people would follow the 'rules'. I could see people posting shit in other artists' threads just to get attention.

Personally, while I do love the themed threads here, I feel that less people would read them if they were in a tiny section by themselves.

Drew, point taken.

Sumaleth - I really like your idea there with themed threads by member name. I thought you had free hands to change the forum as you wished but I guess it is Dhabibs forum. ok I wont come up with more ideas then since things cant be changed.
Thank you for your answer in here Sumaleth. :)

Maybe we could have trial periods of different settings in the forum when Dhabib returns, well a later question.

thanks for all the input in here guys. :)

see you
Matthew

I don't know about themed by user threads. That would mean one couldn't post a painting separately and would have to append to one single thread... could get messy with people posting feedback to much eralier posts while you are hoping to get feedback for your new picture.

What would really be cool is if users could vote for certain threads. I don't mean to turn this into a 'who gets more votes' competition but just to be able to easily identify threads that people liked. Kind of what they got at amazon: (45 out of 60 people found this thread interesting). Then be able to sort by such a rating.

Hope you consider when and if the time comes.

Drunken, I like the idea there with the rating, I have been thinking about that too.
I like the index page over at cgtalk, that would be cool over here too and if we had pictures and ratings on the index page people wouldnt miss out on the good threads.

I was thinking about Dhabib, is he really in charge as it is now.
I mean Creationstorm took over after Dhabib and what I felt from Dhabib when he posted earlier was that he maybe wasnt that interested in the forum now, he asked the question if we wanted the forum to stay.
So, my question would be is he coming back?

I hope I am not too annoying here but some kind of change to the forum would be great since the only thing that is Sijun now is the Speed-thread, still thou I love the Speed-thread over anything else but some other cool sections would be great.
Can we ask Dhabib or anyone else that is in charge about changes in the forum?
what do you think Sumaleth?

Ok enough rambling since I said I wouldnt brought any of this up again.

thank you. :)

I was thinking more in line with just a little indicator next to each thread like (45/60), dunno about an index page. That would work too probably.

Dhab still owns the domain, so he is in charge. It would be cool if someone like suma would have more access though.

I liked the member ratings.
The problem was that is was not possible to change the vote when the members improved.
Because the member numbers disappeared new user-titels for VIPs could be cool
... but that would mean a lot of work.

Rating threads works pretty well @ conceptart.org .
And there's a best of conceptart forum.
But a simple solution could be a thread: "Recommended threads"
where users can add links to threads they like.
Maybe a thread where good advice is quoted could be helpful too.
