from what I read on this forum, I can tell you guys are all professionals. therefore I think this question won't be so hard

I can call myself a newbie although I have worked in photoshop 3.0.5 for past 2 years, and I never had worked with layers (heh, sounds stupid. mostly I have worked with the photoframe & such plug-ins but I never took advantage of the layers)

then I noticed this site, and I have to say it kicks some serious ass. read my suggestions on the bottom of this message. I'll just get to the point
I read dhabih's tutorial how he does things (that image called "Broken") ,did everything and now I have two layers. in the first one, there are only black lines and in the other one, colors. on the fifth step, he says that he had flattened all layers so he can smudge the picture. how to do that? I've tried everything (well, not exactly everything) but it doesn't work. either I edit the first image (only lines) or the colors, but never both. how to 'merge' both layers into one image so I can smudge it? Thanks a lot.

Now, onto other things
I'd like to suggest dhabih, da man, to add more tutorials. I'd like to draw pictures (since I think I can draw some excellent sketches but I'm a newbie when editing them in the photoshop comes around so do you know where can I find more tips on this? I know dhabih is an unique designer, but still, I'd like to learn how to do more effects beside ones in the tutorial.
like on the step #7 I don't know how do all those stuff. I quote:

how to add dents, scratches and veins? or on the step #8 there's a neat effect of the rain. how to do this?

dario: Read the manual...

Try to change the layer's mode from "normal" to "multiply" or something. It's not so f-word hard to use layers. It's like, working with magic transparent papers put on top of each other.

By the way, I wen't over from some crappy gfx program (not worth mentioning) to Photoshop for it's layers two yrs ago. What the h*** is matter with you?

To flattern layers, goto Layers-->Flatten Image (It's towards the bottom of the menu), or you could do Ctrl-E, which is the shortcut for Merge Down Layers (also found in the Layers menu), which will merge your currently selected layer with the one beneath it, one at a time.

If you don't want to merge the layers, I think there is is a "use all layers" option in the smudge tool's option palette..
(at least it is in photoshop 5.0.2)
