I don't usually fond of drawing painting a guy, but I figured what the hell. I need to do it once in a while... I spend too many hours on this one, and it doesn't even come out the way I wanted. Need to do more and more and more..............................some day.

Keep posting if you have more of these. :)
btw can you tell me a little bit about your working progress, that would be really appreciated. :)
Do you go for free hand sketching in the anatomy or do you measure and such?

see you and keep it up

Thanks Matthew Shocked

I am pretty new to Digital painting (or traditional) myself. Those were done in Photoshop 7. And now I am starting to use Painter 8, I like the color in Painter a lot more. I will post some here pretty soon when I get those done.
I don't really have any process yet that I get accustum too. Those posts are pretty much a try out....and see what the outcome is like. I haven't done any successful ones which I am happy with yet. Very Happy

And Sparth has his process on his site, but it's down today so I don't have an access to the link. You should try to find it one of these day.

To answer your question, I am always free hand drawing to keep it loose and as natural as you can (Great people told me that). As for drawing, um....I don't really have anything to tell you but keep drawing. If you can find life-drawing session in your area, go draw as much as you can.
Tips from my good artist friends.
Always focus on what you want to improve on and so forth...always look at everything you draw with your artistic eyes and analyze them.

Here are some of my life drawing:

Ylla: Thanks dude. Tombo Brush is some kind of a brush-pen (sort of like marker, but with fake brush on its tip) It can be dilute with water, because it's (I believe) fill with some kind of water color inside. Pretty handy tool, you can find it in any big art store.

Here is for today:
I am still not sure if I like th result of this one. I gotta keep painting....

This one if the first try Speed Painting, but I didn't dare to post it up there yet. Too many good stuff in there. Scary!!!
Here 30 minutes:

Enjoy,
Xia

xia, i think your already pretty damn good work would benefit from some sharp edges in a couple of places. Smile

No, you are good. Damn... Your 1 minute figure studies are better than my 5 minute ones... Must practice more..... Mad Got any tips concerning fig drawing?

Your otherwork is good too, but I think you should vary your brushstrokes a bit more. Or at least make parts like the skin smoother, as right now it's the same texture as everything else. Well, it helps for a unified image, but aside from colour it's hard to discern what is skin and what is clothing in some places.

Xia - hey yeah thank you for your reply there, I actually had a life-drawing session today for the whole day and I am having those every week now. I could guess that your stuff was free hand cause they look very nice and dynamic, very good stuff you have here. :)

Keep it up Xia. :)

Critical Pete: Thanks for your kind words. As for the tip for life drawing. Um...I am no expert, but my advice would be... It really depends what you want to focus on. As for me, I was focusing on line quality and get better at gesture for about two years now (on and off depending if we are on a crunch time or not.) I tended to stay way from Chacoal, graphite or anything that I could smear (because I was always tend to smear all the time back then). Pen, Chinamarker, and any kind of marker will help improving line quality (people told me that.) So I have used those all the time and focus on minimal strokes that I would put on to make it look best/fluid possible. But now people told me to go back to chacoal and work on the flowyness/ of the line, value and some smearing technique. So I will try that from now. I am still trying to get better myself.
One important thing I always do . Also every time before starting a session plan ahead on what do you really want/need to work on. It will make you focus more, instead of just draw and go without any goal in mind.
(But once in a while go with the flow is a good thing too, it will loosen you up and experiment more.)

Matthew: You are very welcome. Life drawing session is very good for you, it will help you improve anything you wish to work on fast, expecially figure wihout having to use any reference (but sometimes you really do need ref on certain things). Hope that helps.

Dougbot: Thanks dude! Yes, I am a big fan of Foster, Mullan, Bengal, Sparth, Phil Hale, Rick Barry, Mucha, Adams Huges, Mad, Campbell...and so on . I am also Dougbot fan too. Laughing

I forgot something.

Critical Pete: I totally agree with you on the painting critic. That's one of the biggest part I miss, and I was trying to figure out why it comes out the way it is. Thank YOU, thank you and lots of thank you.
Now my eyes open a little bit more.

I just start painting digitally seriously about a month ago.

Thanks a lot for the advice XIA. Hmm... I've been doing a lot of 1 minute studies for about a month now, I use graphite but I don't smudge because there's really no time ( I suppose I'm still slow )... I will consider using pen more often. I use it for quick sketches at the bus stop etc... And it works well but I tend to add too much superfluous information. With pencil you can do all that really lightly in the beginning and then use heavier darker lines to emphasize the more important lines. But you've really helped me a lot with your advice to plan ahead. Thanks again. ^^

Just one today.
Sorry guys, I exceed my bandwidth allowance yesterday. It never happen before.
Shocked

This one I like it more than any of the color one I did. It's getting toward the direction that I want. But still...I need to push it further and explore more.
Takes me about four to five hours in two sitting. Only if I can get that or better every time.

Have a good weekend guys!
Later, Very Happy
