I see alot of fantastic artwork on this site, as well as all who have posted thier new work. My question is this... Alot of the work I've seen has alot of meticulous detail put into it.. Just out of curiousity, how big of a "canvas" do you usually start with? Do you start large and sample down when complete, or do you start small, sample up for detail and then resample back down to a reasonable resolution? Does everyone start out with a vague concept pic and then paint in all the details? And.. do you use custom brushes in your images, or is it all done by hand with photoshops built in brushes?
Thanks in advance for your help and replies..

I may sometimes start with a 1280x1200 image, for the sketching, but in the end, I'll heve resized it to a big enough size to be printed on an A4 at 150 dpi. Often I just start straight off at that resolution, especially if I start working from a scanned sketch.
I've been meaning to make some custom brushes, but in the end, I've never felt I needed any.
