Hi! I'm new to the list.
I have been working on this painting for about 4 hours, and I would really like some advice on this.
Please say if you see any proportion/anatomy problems. I would also like to add some more detail to the painting - where would you suggest that I start?
I have tried to make the light, coming from the right, a bit warm and the shadow on the back of him a blueish cool colour. Does it need some more contrast?
Anyway, any advice is welcome!
Thanks,
Alex

Yes, hes got a plastic feeling to him. I will try to get rid of that. I'm just not sure how... |

Hi amarthin-
I did a quick paint over, I hope you don't mind. I think concentrating on value and edges would help in this case. Try to mass your shadows whenever possible. See below.

Hey Pro!
A million thanks! I really appreciate it.
I have quickly tried to paint over the face after your instructions. But I will do a complete repaint once I get home.
Previously I have used the Dodge and Burn tool a lot, but as I understand, it would be better just to paint with the colours from the "egg", right?
Anyway, here it is:
By the way, several has said that hes pose looked too feminin, so I changed hes back, even though I thought it looked more dynamic. |

OK, I have been reading some of the tutorials, and have done a complete repaint.
This one is made with a very limited palette and painted with hard brushes with a opacity of 5.
What do you think?

Much, much better now. You are going in right direction. Hands look a bit unfinished, and yellow sword-handle sticks out too much, but it's still wip, isn't it? You could also add some blue tinge to shadows (real world shadows on sunny day have blue tint). And I would change composition a bit - add some space on the left. _________________ a.k.a. azazel or eltazar |

I'd try to make the sand not as shiny as it is, and maybe get rid of those waves in the sand. |

Hey bro, dont forget the egg concept, u forgot to add very light areas, those that are directly being hit by the light, Look at Pro's version, the shadow of the hand on the pants, there's still a light spot there. I'd say add a bit more "tone" to the pic, more light areas to add a sense of presence...
What prog'd u use btw? (I havnt drawin digital in over 3-4 months, I'ma get back into it now...) |

Thanks for all the feedback!
It will be a while before I have the time to continue with the picture, since I will be working non-stop for the next couple of weeks or so.
By the way, the picture is done entirely in photoshop.
Hope to get back soon,
Alex |
